King of the Shard

THE KING OF THE SHARD

by Ajax Mayflower

He wasn't entirely real,
But he's definitely not artificial
He's the genuine actual article
In the virtual world unofficial.

I remember the first time I saw him,
Surrounded by his bodyguard.
I asked someone "Who is that clown?"
They hissed "Dundee, he's King of the Shard"

He was not such a figure imposing,
His height- not much more than an inch,
But though he faced demons and dragons,
No one ever saw Dundee flinch.

In fact, no one knows what he looked like
Or the color of the pony he'd ride,
He was able to be quite invisible
Just by keeping Shade at his side.

But when the days lengthened with boredom,
And troubled were the minds of the land,
It was Dundee that lit up the darkness
With some goofy madness he'd planned.

A Dundee idea might just lead to fun,
Or might change a world as we knew it,
But unlike us he didn't just dream it:
Dundee would go out and do it.

He inherited the pipe from the Pied one,
And he played it fully as well.
From the very first moment we met him,
We'd follow that man into hell.

He conquered a world and then left it.
Then he conquered a second in turn.
Then he dreamed of creating his own world
Using the things that he'd learned.

So with Shade and a couple of friends,
He built up a world stone by stone,
Astonished, we gaped at the product-
For the dream that he built was our own.

Now, it may look to you like we're busy,
With our lives that are hectic, but small.
But beneath it we're all holding ready-
Just waiting for Dundee to call.
