Personal Guard Quests

Postby BabyKinz on Tue Feb 03, 2004 9:37 pm

I dont know if this has been brought up or not and I am way too lazy to search the forums.

Is there a way , and a Need, to make guard quests more personal.

They seem to be popular for both newbies and oldbies but I see alot of newbies going after Greats and oldbies hunting Ratlords and such.

Is there a way the the guard can determain your skills and strength and send you on a quest that fits you.
Like a newbie can hunt down some easy thing , and a more experienced player can hunt down mighty dangerous things.

Maybe a menu like in AG quests?

huh huh huh doable? needable?

Making it something you can select would be possible borrowing some code from the arena stone probably. I wonder though if that would spoil some of the mystery and fun of guard questing if you could pick and choose what you wanted to fight. It's something to think about though.

You already effectively have a choice with guard quests. You can choose to accept them or not and go on to the next guard and try your luck there. And, with so many more guards all over the place these days, you have more choices than ever.

I have gotten to the point with several characters where I will usually not hesitate to accept just about any quest. But, if it is late at night, and I get a quest to retrieve something from Buccs Den, I often turn it down and go to the next guard. I know I can usually handle Buccs, even solo, but when I am tired and there are few potential rescuers online, it just makes sense to move on and find something a little less difficult.

Similar logic applies if your character is still in development or you are still learning tactics in various situations or vs. specific mobs. Move on and find something easier... or try your luck and see what you learn from it (even if you die, perhaps especially then). ;)

Before guards were rotated in to the various outlying parts of the Queen's realm, this would have made better sense. There's more of them out there now though, so turning one quest down doesn't mean you're out of luck for an hour or so waiting for the few guards in town to come up with more monster gossip. Having guards in towns other than Britain has been a nice change--thanks much!

what's really fun is having something "impossible" dumped on you and surviving. world looks so much brighter as you count limbs and realize they are all still attached to a still beating heart.

Kinda like the time I was fighting a royal and a named dragon in Despise and 2 ancients spawned right there?

Oh I did, fire breath from the royal killed the named, and I RAN LIKE HADES!

I've killed ancients before, just not 2 at the same time. That's dumb to try solo. You need to seperate them.

Actually, the original idea is a pretty good one, and something that I'll definitely do. Um, eventually... The rewards, of course, will have to scale too (otherwise I just know someone will lead a newbie around to get quests for them, zap the ratmen themselves, then split the reward...) It would be nice to give the newbies/newer character a slightly more active thing to do than run boxes from merchant to merchant...

God bless thee, Drocket. I'm about to go insane (ok, more insane than usual) getting Dell back into shape.
