A great ending to a great night (long post)

Postby Rydalia on Wed Jan 28, 2004 10:21 am

I started out the nite like any others. I saw i was low on GH potions and proceded to stock up. After a couple rounds of clearing Deciet 3rd, i felt i needed a change. So off to Covetous i went. 1st level was a breeze, i blew throught the level so easy and so fast, that i laughed at that it used to be rather hard for me. 2nd Level was easy as well, i gave it no thought. 3rd level proved to be a challenge. With alot of reds and alot of casters, it was takeing time to clear the level. After about 30 mins of work i had finnaly cleared the level.

Thus begin the nightmare.

I decided to go down some stairs, never knew they were there, and me being the confident and explorer type i descended. Upon entering the area i see a cave, and at least 15 lizardmen all scurrying about trying to get at me. As i filtered through some, a bunch found there way into the corner i was takeing refuge in. dead no problems. But what was concerning me was that every single shaman was not wondering near the entrance so i could pick them off. After a couple mins of manuvering in the walled area i got a couple to wander my way and slew them with ease. I then started the little toss and duck moves with greater explosion potions, into my little sanctuary. When all of a sudden 2 reds respawn in my cubby hole. I am then forced into the open, 3 shamans begin casting, along with 2 marksmen tossing purples at me. In my haste to get out of dodge, i pressed PATHFINDING! (i hate this feature with a passion) takeing me right to the waters edge... 3 water elementals then begin casting. At full speed i am makeing a break for the exit, my mana has been leached from me i cant gate, slight panic hits... and then i see the wonderful black screen and "You are Dead".

Ashuuk, sends a message asking if i need help, oh yes please i respond, and inform him of where i am. So i am sitting there for a few mins watching the lizards kill my horse and looting my body. Then i see the Ashuuk's death cry is heard across the realm. Oh poo! Checking .online, only myself and 2 others are online including the dead Ashuuk. At this point i am hateing life, i can forsee all of my gear saying bye bye because of rot. So i make my way out of covetous and get to vesper and get my self res'd at the healer. At this point i am ready to give it all up, give away my house, and just stop playing. I will admit i was starting to cry, for a solid month everything i did was done to make this character stronger and my gear was getting good. Come to find out: Iarwin Ben Afar, Robert McLoed, and my neighbor Ashuuk are working there way to where i died. When i came out, 3rd had respwned and was a much bigger spawn then when i had come in. blah blah blah, bunch of messages later. They had gotten to where i had died, and were looting my stuff, my body had decayed. Once we got toghter and i looked everything over. I did loose every piece of armor i had, including my earrings and ring of str, pants and apron of magic resistance, BUT! my weapons made it(thank god). Those 3 guys are my Hero's, i do not have the words to properly bring across the joy i was feeling when they arrived with what they could salavage. They even replaced my armor with what they could. Even offering items i could not use or had any purpose for.

Its people like those 3 that make me love this server so much. I didnt even know them, i had run into Ashuuk every once in awhile, but all it was, was hey! etc. When 3 people out of the blue go out of there way to try and recover what i had given up on it makes me feel so great. I am forever in there debt, and if any of them are ever i need i will come running. Actions like these make me believe that there are still very good at heart people in a world where you see corporate corruption, lieing leaders, and wars being fought because they can.

Iarwin, Robert, and Ashuuk... i bow to you, and forever thankful.

Look me up ingame and I'll see if I can plug some holes in your missing stuff, generally I'm no Edison or Thomas these days.

Also, pathfinding can be killed in the options menu, theres a tick box in the top tab on the right hand side.

Sorry to hear the tale of woe Rydalia. It sucks mightily to loose your kit like that. i still remember the first and thank god only time it happened to me in Deceit. My very first Desty wpn croaked on the floor while i watched. I fell in with Homer on a rescue and his plan was to simply run through the place until we got to the person needed rescueing. Sounded reasonable enough at the time and off we went. My problem was that i wasn't familiar with the lower levels of the dungeons being the big wussy that i was(still am actually). Well Homer got a bit ahead of me and i lost him down on the bottom level. Ran one way and lo a black wisp so i figured he couldn't have gone that way so i doubled back with the wisp on my tail and found the way blocked by yet another wisp. feeling rather hard done by i bolted in the last available direction and this time it was a bloodlich standing in the way. came to a screeching halt said to myself "i am sooo screwed" and fell over dead. Wisps were scarier things in those days. to add injury to insult they never got close enough to the body to pick anything up.
someday these things are just stories to share round the fire.
