Animals Missing........

Postby Baldo on Mon Aug 09, 2004 7:26 pm

Yesterday I bought and had decorated a static house next to a pasutre in Yew...... Now I spent about 3 hours collecting animals (Sheep, cows, horses, and chickens) and releasing them in the pasture. I logged off at 12:30 Am PST and come back on 12:00 Pm PST to find each and every animal missing from that pasture..... Now I know an estimate of how many animals were in that pasture and all of them couldn't of gotten away in that amount of time....... I would like to know what happened.... I put alot of time into getting them to have them gone from (I am guessing stolen, killed without thinking, etc.). Get back to me please on this subject.......

Were they caged and was the cage locked?

Putting some cows and such behind your house uncaged doesn't mean they will stay there long. If you want to keep cows, page a gm and setup a fence.

Okay first of all, it is an already set up static fenced pasture. Second of all I remember somewhere when reading the rules of curtiosy, that releasing killing stabled/fenced up animals is rude and I do believe (don't quote me) against the rules. Now it just wasn't a few animals that you could mistake as just spawning there. Second of all I didn't get a key for the fence (heard you had to buy it after the fact) and it was unlocked..... But still going and killing almost 50 fenced up animals without thinking of the person that has an owned house no more than 4 steps away from the fences gate is just flat out rude.....

Fifty? That's overkill. Maybe the gms did that. May have to do with spawn issues. May have to do with login issues. I know that if I have too many items in one spot, and it happens to be where I logged out, then I won't be able to log back in. How many do you *really* need?

50 does sound like a lot depending of course on the size of the pasture. there is some code that causes overcrowded animals to die off which could be part of the problem. could also just be a newish player "hunting". when i started the thought that someone had deliberately collected animals like that just never occured to me so i happily killed anything i found. figured that the spawner favoured pastures which seemed to make sense to me at the time. in due course an admin set me straight. it was just after that i began reading the boards before playing.

Well I had a ton of sheep for the point of getting their wool for my tailor, I had the chickens so I could sell eggs and I had a small amount of horses (for the point of giving them to anyone that needed a steed to ride) and a couple of cows for their milk........ Considering you only get 6 bunches off wool I had mostly sheep because the more the sheep the more the wool I get in one sweep.........

They may have been overcrowded, they die if you do that as Me and Augur learned after taming and releasing almost 50 sheep in the moonglow place for us newb mages.

What do you need wool for when you can harvest flax or cotton?
