Hail all Order Virtue Guards,

It has been brought to my attention that a Squire in your ranks has been insulting to the weak and feeble. The Squire that was told to me was Squire Garrett. The things that he said to a poor beggar by the name of Lazerous shows he has no compassion and doesn’t deserve the shield he carries. Is this what the Order Guard has become, arrogant knights that have no compassion. The knights that I remember from of old upheld the virtues, were always willing to help the weak, feeble and the lame. Great knights of name like Sir Mego Stone, Sir Sy, Sir Xaiver, Sir Magus and Sir Novous Just.

The Illustrious Sir Alexander Chaos Guard.

Hail Alexander
When I see Garrett, I will have a talk with him. You are correct that an Order Guard should NOT be that way. No matter if its to an upstanding citizen or even a beggar. We, as Virtue Order Guards do not want to have a bad apple mar what we stand for.
I would like to personally thanks you for bringing this to our attention. We will deal with it as soon as possible. Thank You.

Sincerely,
The Noble Lord Herakles, Order Virtue Guard

Garrett is a good friend of mine. If he treated someone in a less than kind way I am certain that there were reasons. Perhaps attaching the word "beggar" to this person would indicate one of the reasons?

Sir Magus does that mean that compassion has limits? Even still telling a lame fisherman that he should die, and that the only thing lame about him is his mind is not what I call the actions of a knight.

well, lets see, I walk into the bank, and I am immediately accosted by this piece of refuse begging for anything I'll give him. There is a difference between upholding "virtues" and accepting the utter annoyance of a moron sitting in a public place bothering every single person that walks in.

While I was about my business banking and placing bids on the auctioneer, he continued to repeat his inane mumblings of "Alms for the Poor" and something about anything you can "spair"(his spelling not mine)

I am not the first or the last to give out anything to new players, and I have no objections to helping new players or characters, but as the saying goes, give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish, and you feed him for life. This i take very seriously, and will much more often dole out playing techniques, and assistance in how to make your own money. Begging is not appreciated, and being an annoying beggar is downright unacceptable.

Thank you for bringing this to attention of everyone, as once again I can prove that I was not in the wrong, and all of your blasphemous statements have been taken out of context.

I could have paged a GM and said there was a beggar in the bank making a nuisance of himself, and whined and cried to the GMs about it. I could have posted a big long nonsense post about his actions and statements. But I did none of those, I dealt with the situation with my best available resource, my wit.

Herakles, go ahead and have a "discussion" with me, go ahead and listen to what anyone posts, because if they take the time to write something, it must be true. Use your head man, don't let someone else think for you. Not once did you say "I'll check the situation out" or something to that effect, you immmediately jumped to the conclusion that I didn't uphold the virtues that we all strive to adhere to.
Did you perchance think I was attempting to protect and preserve everyone else's right to come unharassed to the bank? nope, you didn't.

As for Lazerous, I hope he limps and drags his dead foot all the way out of Britain, because sitting around being a pest is just the thing that all citizens of WoD should strive to do.

The next time I see a beggar I will most likely react the same way I did that night, Charity is GIVEN to the "poor" out of the goodness of the heart. It is not, I repeat, It is NOT to be begged for from anyone.

Oh and in case you haven't realized it by now, I am Garrett, and I have been around for awhile, and I do know how to act and behave towards everyone that is here. A lot of how I act is how I get treated, and when I am pushed the wrong way, I don't push back, I swing full force and destroy whatever pushed me.

Keep up the good work Alex, lets go ahead and defend these wonderful people with nothing better to do than bother everyone that walks into the most public place in our wonderful world of dreams.

Hmmm, Seems to me Garrett that he was RPing, isn't that part of WoD? Seems to me you wern't. At least that’s how it looks to me. Isn't this suppose to be a place to RP without being assaulted by some one who has been here a while?

In all fairness to Felix if a person decides to RP being a pain in the fundament wouldn't that constitute harassment of a sort?

Ok so now we will quibble over the semantics of it all. Yes WoD supports RPing, Yes anyone has the right to RP however they want. I also have the right to react to their RPing in any way I want. Before i started knocking him down, I told him beggars are not appreciated. I bet he didn't tell you that, did he, nope, he left out that little bit of information. He just went ahead and told you how big of a meanie this guy was that interrupted his RPing session. Life isn't fair, cope with it, he wanted to RP being an annoying little pile of refuse. I told him that wasn't appreciated, he continued to make little quips, and I tore him up. Poor him, lets all feel sorry for him because he wants to RP and I wouldn't let him. Thats rubbish and you know it, he was performing an activity in the bank that is frowned upon, if by no one else other than me.

Isn't there still a shrine of Compassion? The duty of a Virtue Guard order is to uphold the virtues. I wasn't at the bank to witness what happened, but just from Garrett's posts it sounds like he is acting in bad form for a Virtue Guard. If I was in the Order Guard, I would consider expressing my disapproval by censuring Garrett.

(actually he sounds to me like a big jerk using his "wit" to take out his frustrations on random people, but really I don't have anything to do with it).

It doesn't appear that this incident was at all random. Whether you agree with his actions as a "Virtue Guard" or not, this was about a person begging who was told it wasn't appreciated (more than once).

So long as Garrett expressed his desire to be left out of this borderline harrassing treatment by a beggar I don't see his actions as being wrong. I certainly wouldn't want to play along with someone roleplaying a beggar, unless playing along meant telling the beggar to take a hike.

When we were in the bank on Tuesday night we had a new person asking for gold. I didn't give it to him, so I suppose you can put me in the Garrett camp.

So Magus are you saying that he was in the right to say the he sould be dead and that his mind was lame? Do you know for sure that he hear him tell him that it was not appreaciated the first time. The bank can get rather busy sometimes and I know for myself that I sometimes have a hard time keeping up with what is being said.

I was in and out of the bank that day. It was something of a nuisance to have a beggar in the bank the entire day. I would think Boone would have escorted him out...

In any case this is much less bothersome than the man that constantly points to what he is wearing. One would think he had the lame mind rather than the beggar.

From the M-W Dictionary : Compassion : sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it

Lets take a look at this definition as it applies to this situation. A poor fisherman is injured performing his duties and can no longer perform his desired trade, Good RP. Claiming to be RPing a beggar, unacceptable behavior. When falling back on this weak defense of "roleplaying" a beggar, it detracts from those out there that are truly trying to define their "role" and flesh out the character they "play". There is no place here for beggars, you can live out your online life without money or food. Simply log in and sit around and talk and interact with all the other "people". As the only pain and suffering here is in the mind of the player, there is no feeling of sympathy for or any need to alleviate the "distress" of this person. Had they simply said "I am a poor fisherman down on my luck" and continued to tell a story, I would have interacted in a very different manner and the whole situation would have gone differently. But alas, they didn't and neither did I. There is no sympathy for someone that sits in the bank harassing others and causing a public nuisance of themselves. In the future, instead of speaking to them in the derogatory manner that is called for in this situation, I will endeavor to do the right thing and report an incident of Harassment to the GMs, who can then deal with the situation. I chose to not involve the GMs and deal with it.

I wasn't at the bank to witness what happened, but just from Garrett's posts it sounds like he is acting in bad form for a Virtue Guard.

If you weren't there, why are you chiming in with your 2 cents? It is my actions that are being discussed here, not my posts. Bad form for a VG is nothing more than a weak way of saying you don't agree with my actions.

If I was in the Order Guard, I would consider expressing my disapproval by censuring Garrett.

If you were in the Order Guards you could speak your opinion of me, but as you aren't, kindly keep your opinions on how an Order Guard should act to yourself. If you wish to enact change within the Order Guards, strive to join and change from within instead of making comments from an outsiders viewpoint. You are not an Order Guard, do not presume to tell the Order Guards how to handle their own business.

(actually he sounds to me like a big jerk using his "wit" to take out his frustrations on random people, but really I don't have anything to do with it).

Maybe I am a big jerk, and maybe you just feel the need to add your opinions on something you know nothing about. You don't have anything to do with it, so please refrain from adding your useless comments.

because you are doing an awful lot of speaking for this midden heap that is calling himself an RPer. Either he spoke to you and you took up his cause, or it was you that was him, in whichever case it may be, using RP as an excuse to be an inconsiderate annoyance is nothing short of destructive to the true Roleplayers of our world. Take an example of a new player coming to our world. He wanders into the bank, newly arrived to our shores from the strife he has fled. He enters, sees a "beggar" and sees people giving handouts to this "poor, unfortunate" soul. He now believes that this is acceptable behaviour. He then goes on to beg his own way into the list of people that are really annoying because he thought it was "OK" to take that action. Well, this beggar has just singlehandedly taken the level of community down to a despicably low level.
