AOL Problems

Postby Drocket on Mon Jun 28, 2004 8:42 pm

This is rather a painfully complicated problem (which I'll describe at the bottom since its probably not going to matter to 90% of the people who this affects anyway), but the end result is that, if you use an AOL email address, I can't email you and you can't email me (this goes for any @theworldodfreams.com email address, too - Siobhan, for example.) The problem doesn't affect the game or visiting the webiste. Its only a 'dispute' between the email systems.

So if you use an aol.com email address and need to contact me, Siobhan, Laephis, whoever, please do it by sending us a private message on the boards. Hopefully this mess with get cleared up soon...

For those who care about the actual reason:
The problem affects all powweb.com customers (which is the webhost that theworldofdreams.com uses.) One option for email that is sent to your webaddress is to have it forwarded to another email address (so you only have to check one account.) Some people use that, and some of them have it forwarded to an AOL email account. The problem is AOL's spam filters: people can report items as spam to AOL's software. Some people reported spam that came to their Powweb address (the spam didn't actually come FROM Powweb- it was just forwarded THROUGH Powweb.) Instead of looking for where the spam actually came from, AOL decided to be stupid and block Powweb. Fun, fun, fun...
