Actually I dont think it does defeat the purpose of the Privacy button at all. I feel that the private mode was originally intended rather be used to eliminate various people from messaging you ingame when you are busy doing something, or out hunting solo, or just to indicate to people that you want to be left alone, which it still does quite effectivley.
WoD is after all a community and should not become a collection of complete hermits. If someone wants to drop by my place and maybe visit because they see that I am online, I really do not see any problem with that. In fact I really like that I can have a look and see who is actually online, even if they are just sitting there macroing, it really does not mean that their right to privacy has been violated at all.
AND I also think that it sorts of defeats the purpose of having the page show how many players are online to a prospective new account or someone coming in from say the UO Top 200 if 5 or 6 of the 20 online players "Don't Exist".
That was my 3gp worth!
BUT I really do think that the page needs a picture or 2 just to spruce it up, and maybe a note by the server uptime that the server restarts every 32 hours:)
