That means that there are numerous similarities between WoD and Ackadia. Inspite of the simiiarities, there are quite a few differences as well. It is a one-character shard. While one might think that playing with one character sounds boring; when you finally have your character maxed out with all of the goodies to make him/her a certified bad@** (which will take a lot of time) you can throw all your gear in the bank and redo your skillset.

My issues with the one char system may have more to do with my sometimes short attention span, after maging for a few hours I sometimes like to switch out to a tank type for a while.

We have also just begun 'Ackadia Raw'. Basically, if you start now you won't be more than two weeks behind everyone else. With Ackadia Raw we got a custom map. If you're into exploring new places... it's great.

This almost addressed something I was wondering about, It sounds like RAW is continuing on? Or is it dying at some point and the old server coming back? Or are both actually in operation now and it's staying that way?

I think it probably started out as up-in-the-air. meaning Ack was waiting to see where they player interest landed. I think it's safe to say the the player interest landed solely in Raw. As such, my educated guess would be that Raw will be permanent. I'm guessing that unless a.)player interest returns to Old Ack and/or b.) donations pick up a little bit (costs a lot to host two servers) that Old Ack will be the way of the dinosaur. Raw is basically the same except for a few script changes (that could've just as easily been incorporated into Old Ack), a new map, and a level playing ground. So - that's my best guess.

The biggest thing about Ackadia is that it was created with the same vision, by the same people, that created the WoD. And the vision is still very much alive in the hands of the current staff and player-base.

When I find the time to play UO, I play on Mith. Some very nice things there and it uses AOS.

I checked out the Lost Realms today. I have to say, there is much there I like a lot.

Plusses include a really cool custom map. The design is incredible...lots of new stuff to explore. They have Races (Human, Dwarf, Elf, Drow). Each Race has their own town, although anyone can live wherever they like. The Elves live in a city in the trees! All the towns are custom crafted, and it is so well done, you'd think they were always a part of UO. Housing is awesome ... custom static designs. It is a very pretty shard. Lots of flowers. :)

Very nice people. Non pk. No stupid names. RP is encouraged but not enforced. Although it is USUALLY an 18+ shard, they do sometimes make exceptions. I know they have for families. I will be happy to vouch for those of you I know, so MAYBE if you tell them you are from WoD and tell them you know me, they MIGHT accept your application even if you are under age.

Lots of WoD scripts so dot commands are the same, and a lot of stuff works the way we are used to (jobbing, questing, buying up skills). It is a Non AoS shard, so you won't find tons of gear with ridiculous buffs, but rather clothing buffs and magic weapons like WoD's.

In an effort to create a player based economy, most stuff must be bought from other players. Also, only one character is allowed to prevent people from muling. Those who want to be entirely self sufficient probably won't like that much, but it isn't really a problem for me, since I usually only have one character anyway. The bazaar is really cool though! They have an area set up specifically for shopping...each player can buy a covered wagon in the bazaar and put up to 3 vendors in it. This place will be great for craftsmen!

The player base seems very small at the moment, however, there seems to be a lot of people applying, and I am told the player base has doubled in the last week. It is a new shard...only up since May...and they are still adding stuff and looking for a new regular scriptor, so I don't know if the shard will last...I guess only time will tell...

It could be exciting to be part of a new shard though ... to be the REALLY OLDBIES who were there almost from its birth as some of you were here...I think I will stick around a bit and see how it goes. I like the idea of helping establish a shard. :)

If Drocket gets his shard up and running, I'll be there too. I plan to haunt Drocket's message board, and WoD's as long as it is up. :D

In the meantime, I would like to encourage others to give the Lost Realms a try. The only real problem I have with this shard is that you guys aren't here with me!

It isn't a gateway shard - you must apply on their forum for an account. However they are VERY fast about granting accounts. They try to get you online within 24 hours. I applied and received approval in an hour! If you decide to apply, tell them you are from WoD. I told Admin. Crystal that I would be trying to persuade my friends to come give it a try, and she was very sympathetic to our plight.

I hope to see some of you guys soon. No matter how great a shard is, it just won't be "home" without you.

*HUGS!*

Hmm alot of shards to choose from. But I maybe moving here soon, which will mean a few months away from the internet till I can afford it myself. Right now though the only shard I seem to be mainly interested in is the shard idea that Drocket and everyone over at his website are brainstorming about. Their ideas are excellent and definatly worth waiting for, honestly I dont think im gonna try another shard unless "The Project" becomes reality instead of just a dream.

one player/one character

The one character/one player aspect of the shard is actually widely misunderstood. I have always seen it as having quite a few important purposes.

First, there are a few democratic features to the shard. I plan on adding more in the long run. Obviously, if you can have lots of accounts or lots of characters, you get an unfair number of votes.

Second, as for the lack of novelty aspect, every hunt with a different team is a different experience, and I know that adds a lot of novelty for me. Besides, I know a lot of people on the older ackadia who changed specs a whole lot - the only real consequence is that they were less financially well-off.

Third, it is a *critical* part of the player-policing policy. If you have but one character, you can not have mules to do your dirty work to prepare your pk runs. If someone does step out of line, you have to face them down once, not in incarnation after incarnation that the mules in the background are supplying.

Fourth, players *need* each other in ackadia. It is an intentional part of the design, and a good thing. It is a game of teamwork, and this strengthens the bonds between players socially. Finding allies to augment your own strengths is a part of the fun.

To me, ackadia is about challenge, about gathering allies and facing down the odds. And sometimes the challenges are deep in the dungeons, and sometimes they are right in your backyard. And worry not, I have more challenges coming down the pipe.

Ackadia is PvE with a very large E.
