As of right now (the 11th) I was able to access the website. I logged on here and notcied that the background and everything came up. I followed some of the links and everything seemed to work for me. I noticed for it to work you don't need to add the "www." into the address. Could this be part of the problem people are facing when they can not reach the website?

I doubt that has anything to do with it being unavailable the past few days... I've been trying to reach it for at least 3 days now and just finally got in today. I used the same link I bookmarked to start with so I think it's just plain been offline?

I'm afraid that the problem was that our webhost (Powweb.com) changed the IP address of the server, which made the DNS lookup for the server incorrect. It took me a day to even figure out that's what the problem was - at first I thought that it was just normal downtime :) I couldn't correct the problem myself because Arcanum (the previous host of WoD) owns the domain name, so he's the one who needs to make those sort of changes. We finally got things straightened out last night/this morning, and the fix is working itself out right now (though there's probably some people who may not be able to access the site for another day or two.)

I'm not quite sure what the problem with using the www before the address is. Arcanum may not have remembered to update that record, or it may simply be a caching issue. I'll look into it, though.

Here's what happened (as best as I can tell):

On Monday, the network admin in charge of Powweb's network created a loop in a router table. This caused any requests to the IP address of the WoD web server to exceed their TTL limit because they were looping between two other IP addresses along the route.

Then on Tuesday and Wednesday it looked like the old range of Powweb IP addresses was simply unreachable. A traceroute showed that the route died between Sprintlink and Internap. From what I read on Powweb's forums this wasn't supposed to happen until the end of this month. I guess someone jumped the gun.

As far as the 'www' A record, I can't be sure why anyone would have trouble with that but not the origin record. Both are working fine for me, and both records were changed to the new IP address at the same time. People having these problems could be experiencing a propagation delay.

Everything should be fine by this weekend.

Good luck, WoD'ers.

Well, it looks like the www address is working for me now, finally. It seemed pretty strange that one would work and not the other. Thanks for checking that for me, Arc :)
