*As Tommy Michaels, Master Bard/Mage. Writing in his journal*
Last night I was putting the finishing touches on my room in Orion's new Moonglow home, (which is soooo much better than his old dank tower,) and it was coming along quite well. There I was comtemplating a visit to troll towm when all of the sudden Orion sprang from his bed and ran out into the main hall.
Orion: "I just got a telepathic message from Zanzabar. Yew is being invaded by snow orcs and other beings from Ice."
Tommy: "Those fiends. I want to help you cousin but when these monsters wander out of their normal areas my powers quit working on them."
Orion: "Don't worry my friend, you will still be there."
Orion then ran back to his room to get ready. While he was putting on his armor I was remembering the last year or so in these lands. The last time any of the Michaels' were around to help beat back an invasion it was when the headless "ones" through "nines" attacked Brit, and the time before that was when the Branubians made their final push. It had been a long time.
The Michaels family had a falling out with many of the famous folks of these lands as of late. Though they still had many friends, Orion, as the head of the family, had wanted to make things right again. Maybe this could be his chance to do it.
Orion emerged from his room fully buffed and prepared from all the solo hunting he has done over the past while.
Orion: "They are just snorcs, so I'll try to make a second front by hitting them on the opposite side of the town from the other heros."
As Orion left the house, I warned him: "Still be careful. The fiends in this land get stronger when they wander from home, and your Magic Resistence isn't what it used to be. You could be overwhelmed"
Orion: "I have to try"
Orion mounted his trusty steed GargoyleSlayer, who had been with him from the beginning, cast a gate and headed out. Over the next few hours I heard some death cries ring out but never Orion's. I took that as he was being careful. Sometimes my older cousin can be an idiot when it comes to magic casters. After about 3 hours he finally returned home.
Tommy: "I see you made it back safe and sound."
Orion: "As far as I can tell, Yew is liberated. I started doing what I do best, just cutting them down in big groups. Then I saw something interesting. Something I had never seen before. A snow orc cleric. It wasn't any tougher than a regular orc cleric so it fell quickly. Then I saw a snow orc assassin and a snow orc dragon defender. I didn't know that snorc were so resourceful to train those classes. They weren't so tough, as long as I cured the poison quickly."
Tommy: "Sounds like you had your hands full."
Orion: "It gets worse. Among the ice fiends, frost gargoyles, frigid eyes, ice trolls and the like... there was also a new class of snorc: Destroyer. These guys hit about as hard as a great dragon. As long as I was aware of my health I would be fine against them. Then I saw the grand-daddy of all. A snow orc master mage. I thought to myself that they can't be that tough. Then he cursed me and I felt as though my strength dropped by 50. Then he cast weaken on me and I felt as though I lost another 50. One good flamestrike would have killed me.
Tommy: "Holy crap."
Orion: "I ran so the spells would wear off. After more fighting, I found an item of Algodon's on a corpse. I decided to go to the main group and turn it in to them. I found Sintar, his dragon and Zanzabar. They let me know that Algodon had lost everything. I turned over the one item I had of his and then helped them finish off the magic casters with my heavy crossbow. We then parted ways after a quick salute of brotherhood. I wouldn't have been able to beat those casters without them."
Tommy: "It sounds like you had a busy night."
Orion: "I'm still kinda pumped. I'm going to go see if my old friend the Shadow Dragon has returned to the graveyard."
That's my cousin. Always feeling the need to protect people. Orion left the house and from what he told me when he returned, the dragon had in fact showed up along with his friends. I can't believe he risks his life like that in a magic battlezone with his semi-low magic resistence. I guess that's why he is the hero.
