Very Important Message from the Administration - Please read

Postby Daeric on Mon Sep 06, 2004 1:00 am

Fellow Citizens of WoD, it is with a heavy heart that we post this news.

Friday September 10th at 10 PM CST. The World of Dreams will officially close its doors.

This is not a decision that came easily to us, however after discussing the various issues and possible
solutions at length we believe this to be the appropriate course. I’ll not get into all the details in this initial post.
We just wanted to get the news out there as fast as possible.

I would like to request that for the time being at least, that people use this thread only for direct questions. Discussions, theories etc should be posted to another thread so that all can cleanly and easily monitor this post for information regarding the impending shutdown.

Each of the admin will be posting their personal thoughts and comments to this thread.

Thank you all,

GM Daeric

Well, all, I kind of wish that I could say that the previous post by Daeric was a joke, but its not. World of Dreams has been here a long time, and ultimately, well all feel that its just time to move on. I don't think anything in particular started this: the shard is simply old, and nothing can last forever...

I've been lead developer for World of Dreams for about 3 and a half years now, and been involved with scripting on WoD for more than 4 years. That's a long, long time. I have to admit that I'm honestly a little scared of what life will be like without WoD: its been a cornerstone of my life for so long now, I barely remember what life was like before it. At the same time, though, I'm also somewhat excited: I guess that in some ways WoD has become a rut, and a rut is a rut regardless of how comfortable it is. Now I'll have time to do new things, though what exactly I don't know yet.

My email address will always be drocket@drocket.net, and my website will always be available at drocket.net. If you ever want to contact me, for any reason, you know where I'll be.

Please god no! this cant be the end result of all of your hard work you guys. Please don't close the shard. Tell us what we can do to stop this please! I am begging you. The World Of Dreams has been my refuge from the real world for over a year now, and I can not possibly fathom a world without it. What Can we as a player base do to stop this?

Ah, so that's how it is. Well, as dramatic and heroically climactic this is supposed to be, I'm sure there's someone else willing to host WoD and be Admin.

That's assuming of course, you're going to truly let go, but let the opportunity for other people to do what you cannot. I'm also assuming Laephis would still continue to be willing to be a server, and Drocket lead developer. This is just Admin 'discussing' what they want to do, without the imput or advice from the player base.

Frankly, I see this is as a good thing. Whatever the case may be, maybe the current shift will be good for WoD. I also would deplore you for killing WoD without letting the opportunity for someone else to take up the reins, as that would be the height of selfishness.

I expect a response.

I agree with Marius on this 100% He does not need to grow up, he makes a point.

Not to take wings side, but I can't help but think that this has been fully thought through.

If it were true that Laephis would continue to host and Drocket would still do the Dev work, then all that would be needed is new admins assuming that they as a whole no longer wish to move forward with WoD.

That just doesn't seem all to likely at this point, but perhaps future events will prove otherwise.

I think its a given that a great number of people will be upset at the sudden turn of events, but perhaps we should hear all the facts before we hang some one.

Marius if you want a Wod-like shard, the scripts are out there for you to use. Go ahead and make the shard of YOUR dreams (with PvP and everything). No one is stopping you.

Well, I haven't been able to play here for a while now, but I am sad to see the World go.

However, I also understand what a commitment maintaining this world must be for all of you, and this is a very personal decision.

So, the best thing I can think of to do is to thank you for the time you have put into providing so much enjoyment for all of us. I don't imagine this was an easy decision for any of you, but I can hope that it is the right one for each of you.

There will be a lot of saddened people as a result of this change, but you need to do what is right for you.

Farewell my beloved home

Postby Joram Lionheart on Mon Sep 06, 2004 6:16 am

Thank you all--Admins and players--for five awesome years of community and gaming experience. I think WoD had a pretty good run (all things considered) and I'm glad to see it go not in shame but when it is still one of the most decent shards out there. My WoD experience is something I will take with me for the rest of my life (for better or worse), and I'm thankful for that. WoD was a big part of my life and I've learned a lot of things from this wonderful experiment. My thanks to everyone who made my dreams possible (while they lasted). And while I'm sad to see WoD go, I'm happy to say this World of Dreams will never be forgotten. It truly was home.

Take care and God bless everyone.

Although it's been a while since I've been on, I was directed here by a friend of mine. I have a heavy heart this day. I too wish to thank the staff for their dedication, time, and money to create a wonderful world such as this.

It's times like this I wish I had Joram's way with words, I wasn't here from the very beginning or even close to it, but for the last almost three and a half years this was my home away from home, the sanctuary I could lose myself in if life was not going so well.

As others have said, thanks to the Admin's and all the players who have been part of this world over the years and thier efforts toward making the shard something special and unique.

I am sorry it has come to this i have grown quite fond of the people i have met here. I will keep checkin the boards to see if there is a change of mind as to the shard shutting down. I think i understand your feelings drockett but i just wanted to make the statement that i would stay on board the shard even if it meant rough times with new administration. We do have something great here. thanks

*is in major shock*

WoD for me has been my hiding place or safe place for many years. It is the place when i want to hide I come to. I have to admitt I have not been around alot in the last 6 months due to not needing to hide but I do still check up on my friends here daily on the board and comment when I need to...

To all the present and past staff of WoD and my friends,

Thank you for countless hours of happiness. Thank you for the World you created that for so many of us is home. No matter where our lives move us to- the one place we always come back to. The place we go to share our sorrow and our dreams with the friends we have made- that otherwise we never would have known existed. Thank you for the laughs and on occasion the cry- It was a world of fantasy but not free from the reality that no matter how bad things are- They could be worse....

I am shocked by this announcement but accept it as what needs to be done. For years I have accepted the changes, even if I did not agree, quietly out of respect and admiration for a staff that was able to build such a wonderful place. Many of the changes in time I realized were very much for the best even though many of us doubted it would be. In Years to come I will look back and say-- WoD- that shard was the BEST ever and smile as I remember all the good times. Sometimes it is better to walk away and stay on top then to fight only to end up on the bottom.

I will continue to send my daily messages to Eldric who will forever have a HUGE place in my heart and say my nightly prayer for Herakles and Joram. There are so many more that have stolen pieces of my heart and mind here. I can't mention them all.....

My sincerest Thank you to all that have touched my heart! May you not find all you seek in the future but all you will need to be happy.
