Let this be a lesson to you all.

[I'm not really sure what happened since I missed most the story, so I'll just make stuff up to fill-in what I don't know]

Yesterday a small group of Wodians (who's names I would spell wrong if I tried) met a stranger, Luphin, who was in need of help. The tale that follows is a tragic one, for I can offer Luphin no consolation. Luphin's daughter was a promising young alchemist. But her propitious skill backfired when fate brought her recent discovery to the attention of the Ur-Wai clan.

You see she discovered a way to make a substance with all the appearance of gold: a fool's gold. The Ur-Wai saw the enormous potential for counterfeit, and only need a little cooperation to harness the alchemy themselves. Perhaps decieved or blinded by greed himself Luphin agreed to make a deal with the clan.

However Luphin came to realize the full criminal nature of the Ur-Wai mob. He wanted no more to do with them and cut off negotiations. But the Ur-Wai take to cruelty as quickly as greed, they kidnapped Luphin's daughter and held her captive, to make the fake gold on pain of death.

Luphin tried to plead with the criminals, but it was too late. They were incredibly dangerous, had his daughter as a hostage, and weren't about to let her go. Though they threated to kill her if he got outside help, Luphin had no other hope and approached some heroes.

The Ur-Wai were incredibly strong and the first group did very well. They only died a few times but invited more people as others offered help. They had infiltrated far into the Ur-Wai cave by the time I joined them. The Ur-Wai wizards could take most your life in 2 spells while the assassins threw throwing stars with deadly pricision and accuracy. The champions fought hard with swords leaving the assassins to finish a hero off with one decapitating blow. I knew at first sight that many of us would die to save this girl.

Perhaps our attack had been too slow (ok, it was very slow) but by the time we reached the clan lab all the alchemists in the team, including Luphin's daughter, were already dead. When ressurection wand, spell and bandage could not help her our thoughts turned to stomping out the Ur-Wai menace and headed deeper into their lair.

Malakim stepped into a teleporter, so I followed healing scrolls in hand. Those one way teleporters are very dangerous, but we only found one wizard on the other side, it was safe. Then someone ran through the gate and down the hall. A dozen ninja trained assassins jumped out of hiding and launched a ferocious attack. I knew had two choices: recall or die, but it decided to stick by my friends in the glory of the battle.

Even as my head was suddenly lopped off, a throwing stars in each eye, the rest of the group went through the portal to join in the great battle. It was so crowded with swords horses and ghosts that one could hardly tell how the battle fared. It lasted several minutes but eventually every one of us perished. Should the Ur-Wai appear again go with caution.

We were luckily saved by divine intervention. We reattached our mangled limbs and looked for our clothes. After an hour or two of looting each other's corpses we proceeded with even larger numbers and slower footsteps. Only a few people died after that and the rest of the clan hideout was quickly secured.

Luphin was not to be seen again.

Personally I'm glad I finally got to see some ninja's in action. Though the assassins might have been weaker in melee than true ninjas, their was still no defence against their *ultimate* powers.

In this little thing we call real life, fool's gold is also known as pyrite :)
