T-maps

If I find a tattered map and I use a shovel on it it says "this map says to go northeast" or something like that. Is there an easier way of finding it? Because it could be anywhere NE on the continent from the beach below Brit. Just wondering, as I'd like to do some treasure hunting.

Thanks

Look at the map and try to figure out what area it shows on the world map
Recognizing features on the map helps a lot such as:
the moongate looks sort of like an asterisk
the skull means a dungeon or cave, usually dungeon
mountains look like, well, mountains
sometimes you can see a path/road or a river
sometimes you can see patterns of clearings/forest
the hedgemaze looks like a castle in a box
occasionally you can see houses on the map

if all else fails, someone in the bank might recognize the area on the map and point you in the right direction

Thanks for the tips but I can't tell at all. It's only a tattered anyway. Oh well.

Thanks

you double clicked on the map to get it to expand to a readable minimap? It ususally isnt hard to match that up with the Brittanian map to get at least the general location. The treasure is always located at the center point of the little map that comes up.

Download UOAM (UO Auto Map). Compare your decoded in-game map geography with areas of the UOAM display. Look for coastlines, cities, mountain ranges. It takes a bit of practice but eventually you can locate areas quite swiftly.

Here's the link to the map guide I usually use. It's a ShockWave web page, and the locations aren't necessarily the same as on the WoD, but the intermediate level will give you a very good representation of the land (as compared to a t-map), so you can generally find your way around.

by-the-by (hint, hint) with a little imagination, this shockwave file can be downloaded locally to your machine to be used offline. I would just post/offer a copy of it, but I never received a reply to my request to the owners as to whether they would sanction this or not :( . So I'm not going to offer it (yet). But I did renew my request for permission to make it available for WoDians :)
