Ehran on Admin Authority
wod isn't a democracy. it's never been a democracy and i really doubt it ever will be. it's a benign oligarchy ruled by people who have demonstrated a well above average commitment to their chosen little society. New blood is invited into the oligarchy based on their behaviour in the game and on the message boards no doubt and the needs of the oligarchy to maintain it's numbers.
Players have no "rights" in this world beyond what the oligarchy chooses to allow. since the oligarchy pays the bills and does the work to maintain the world this is entirely within their rights. we the players are guests in their world. tis a fact of life here and there isn't a damn thing a player can do about it if it rankles him/her or it as the case may be.
Joram Lionheart on Admin Accountability
Accountable? Yes, sounds nice. Yet I couldn't honestly say that they are. Ultimately, Admins are accountable only to themselves. MOST Admins, however, will make an attempt to be fair and equittable. But you must understand that you have no power or authority to tell them what to do or what not to do.
And alas, the old saying remains true. You can either accept this fact and continue being a part of WoD, or you can choose to pass and go elsewhere. It's not a threat or bullying. As Ehran already said, it is merely a statement of fact.
Laephis (Admin) on Admin Duties
You'd think that being an administrator all of a sudden gives you the power to do make all kinds of great changes. Well here's the reality of it: It doesn't. There are politics and conflicts and all sorts of crap that get in the way. You tied up and bogged down deal with player issues. You run into technical difficulties. You run into real life difficulties.
Drocket (Admin) on Macroing
Its not so much that macroing is not permitted: its not encouraged, What's the difference, you say? Well, if it were not permitted, then you would get in trouble for doing it (as in fines, character deletion, banning, whatever.) As part of the 'not encouraged' thing, if we happen to notice you macroing, then yep, expect to develop 'connection problems' Also worth mentioning is that we really don't go LOOKING for macroers: its more just a 'if we notice you' sort of thing.
Atei on the Forums
This is the point I think a lot of people miss. The fact is, the people who post here are, for the most part, people who play the game. I have always been told that the Boards and The Game are separate entities, but clearly they are not. If someone attacks on these boards, it DOES carry over to The Game. Joram, I don't think that's a failing of the people who post here--it's human nature. If you call me a jerk on these boards, you better damn well know I will remember it next time I see you in game. That makes sense, doesn't it?
Celeste is a prime example of this. Now, I know that some will say it wasn't what she posted, it was how she posted. Regardless, she got attacked on these boards for her views on cliques and other things, and she ended up leaving the game. I doubt seriously anyone attacked her in game for her views. Clearly, there is a connection between the Boards and The Game.
If you look at it objectively, would you want to associate yourself with someone in game who attacked you on the Boards? Let me put it another way: if someone feels a certain way on the Boards, is there any reason to think they don't feel the same way in game? They are the same person, aren't they?
Avyn Asu on Admin Professionalism
However, I also know how I expect my staff to act and how I expect the players to act. There is no way I can feel any gratitude or respect for any staff member, of any game, who publicly compares one of his players to a crying baby or otherwise insults or belittles him, no matter what that player has done. I wouldn't be surprised to see that from another player, but staff should be above that. I think that's what bothered me most. The staff has greater responsibilities than the players, and fewer liberties with what they say when posting on a staff name. A suggestion (not a complaint) would be to have the staff have two names--one for posting from an official staff position and always polite and professional, and one for posting as a player with personal opinions. I've seen this type of separation work very well elsewhere.
Laephis (Admin) on Player-Run Events
You know, we'll listen to anyone about almost anything, but what people usually mean is doing it for them. I think the sense of accomplishment would far outweigh the minor "cool" things we could add to it. I'm usually quick to knock OSI shards, but one thing I've always been impressed with is the ingenuity the players on OSI shards show. I've seen some pretty amazing things done with just the simple tools UO gives you. Honestly, sometimes I think WoD suffers from "handholditis" a little too much.
Joram Lionheart on Player-Run Events
Players can do some pretty amazing things without GM assistance. After nearly five years of playing here in WoD, though, I can tell you with certainty that all those amazing things are doomed to failure without some sort of Admin recognition. I don't think it's something that we can fix either. The problem is systemic and will not go away unless you rebuild WoD from scratch (which is not going happen anytime soon). So the only alternative left is for the Admins and the few (the VERY few) people interested in creating something amazing--as you say--to work together.
Marius the Black on Social Structure
I will allow, that yes, there are social groups in WoD. Because in any society, these exist. Whether family, friendship-based, occupationally-based (workmates), romantic or otherwise, people will band together for a multitude of reasons, based on their interactions at the time, the nature of how they're feeling and their general personality and disposition attributes. One cannot argue that everyone bands together with totally selfish or noble motives, but rather, a delicate combination thereof. To generalise and simplify, most people find comfort and enjoyment with good friends and a positive social atmosphere on varying levels of intimacy.

it's sort of an unwritten rule that brit gy is "reserved" for [young]s and players not much part that level
