Possible link to shadowpack invasion?

Postby Celeste Kendreyl on Sat Apr 17, 2004 10:31 am

I'm not sure if this is something that is always out there, or if, perhaps, it is linked to the current menace surrounding the Yew area, but....
Tonight as Michael Atticus and I were out hunting shadowpacks, we came across a dead Yew tree, with several dead trees surrounding it. The location of said tree is at 1040, 534 on your UOAutoMap. Now, there were an unusually high concentration of shadowpacks in the immediate area of this tree, and I have never before seen packs so close together as they continuously appeared in this area. Pack after pack kept spawning, and pack after pack lay dead at our feet while we pondered the meaning behind this dead Yew tree. Now, from an RP standpoint (I've learned I must clarify my intentions whenever entering an rp point of view) it would appear that this dead tree, and the surrounding area must have something to do with the numerous shadowpacks in the vacinity. Furthermore, one should note that Yew trees are the most hardy of all trees, and not easily killed, unless by some other-worldly means, or dark magicks... Could this be the "source" of the scourge now poisoning Yew? Or is it, perhaps, simply a phenomenon which has always existed at that location? If anyone would be able to confirm the latter, it would set my mind at ease, as this discovery, at least for me, has been quite troubling. If, however, this is not something normally found at this location, we might seek further guidance as to the cause of the defoliation of this great tree, and perhaps find more clues as to the source of the invasion.

Hail and well met, milady Celeste. I bid you greetings from my Humble Abode in Magincia. Thank you for your continued vigilance in defense of Yew against the vile shadowpack!

I wish to share with you my scant, pitiful knowledge of the area with the dead Yew tree. My brothers and I have hunted there on many occasions, and as far back as any of us can recall, that tree has been dead. Truly a great evil was loosed on Britannia the day a Yew tree was felled!

Perhaps it was such a malignant evil that slayed that Yew tree that the shadowpack see it as a den of sorts? Perhaps they feel "at home" there? Who is to say what goes through a shadowpack's mind, other than bloodlust?

Milady Celeste, I feel a lingering evil in that area. I feel it as a sour stomach and an ache in my teeth. I am quite sure that a lady of your stature and grace knows to what I refer. It may very well be that the area is cursed by the memory of that dead Yew tree, struck down in its prime and now doomed to forever reach for the sky...

If I may offer any further assistance on this matter, please do not hesitate to ask.

I remain,

Covenant Atei

I would not be surprised if evil has entered that area again. It was told to me that a far reaching evil covered the Yew area a long time ago and only through dint of selfless battle and courage was it defeated. Druids restored most of the forest by chanting a powerful magical cantrip but this specific area was either missed or resisted the spell of renewal.

I doubt there is a connection with these silly shadowpack creatures but who knows for certain? Malignancy is often mistaken.

(as to RP in the Quest forum, it is expected.)

Ah... many thanks. I was not aware of this irregularity being constant out there in those woods, and when we happened upon it I got a little tickle in my belly thinking it might be some clue or whatnot... alas, I was mistaken. Or... was I? As Eldric stated, it very well MAY be some strange power out there that has been causing this spawn... maybe warrants further investigation? Either way, thank you for clearing up the issue of whether or not that tree had always been that way. I shall sleep a "little" better knowing it has, but still... what could be powerful enough to kill a Yew?..........

An ogre lord has nothing on Da Bogmu - maybe it's something he did when he was here - an innocent tree in the wrong place at the wrong time.
