Gates having odd effect

While traveling today digging up musty old treasure chests, I gated from Homers tower to a spot on Beachhead Island and after stepping through I attempted to use a shovel and it gave me the message "You are already doing something". This was repeated until the gate disappeared. Once the gate timed out all was normal again.
