Magic Items on Dragons

Post by Chala » Wed Feb 06, 2013 6:33 am

I have been hunting dragons for the last few days and completely cleared out despise about 7 times or so. Tonight it dawned on me that i cant remember getting a single magic off of a dragon so far, so i cleared the dungeon 2 more times killing 4 ancient dragons, 7 royal dragons and many other of the lesser dragons and didn't get a single magic, is this just bad luck or has any one else noticed this as well?

It is bad luck. You see, each entry for magic items has a number in the last column, which represents the per thousand chance to get it. So if it is a 18, then it is a 18 in 1000 chance. Here are the chances:

Dragons
magic_quality 7
magic_group wands 6
magic_group allweapons 15
magic_group allarmor 12
magic_group clothing 9

Great Dragons
magic_quality 8
magic_group wands 6
magic_group allweapons 18
magic_group allarmor 12
magic_group clothing 12

Royal Dragons
magic_quality 9
magic_group wands 6
magic_group allweapons 18
magic_group allarmor 12
magic_group studdedarmor 6
magic_group platemailarmor 6
magic_group clothing 6

Ancient Dragons
magic_quality 10
magic_group wands 12
magic_group allweapons 18
magic_group allarmor 6
magic_group studdedarmor 6
magic_group platemailarmor 6
magic_group clothing 12

You are our most unlucky player, it seems ^_^

Anyways, think about the probabilities... 18 in 1000 means you could get a magic item on every 56th dragon killed, but it could also mean you may kill 18 dragons and get a magic item in each one of them, and then kill another 982 and get no magic items at all. It could also go where you kill 9820 dragons and get nothing, and then you kill another 180 and get a magic item on each.

Well it seems killing dragons for magic items is silly. 18 out of 1000 is a slim chance. Even if an orc has only a 5 out of 1000 chance i will kill 1000 orcs way before i kill 1000 dragons, so my chances are far greater just by killing by volume.

And as far as being unlucky I guess you are right, i have 0 luck, rofl.

The difference is in the magic_quality. Higher quality results in better items.
