Uo Problems.....

Postby Dragonan on Fri Feb 06, 2004 4:14 am

Well since i couldnt get WoD working, i thought i'd try to uninstall UO, clear it then reinstall. When it finished it wouldnt let me patch, it tried to connect to the patch site but it couldn't, i also can not connect to the file download site for my virus scan updates. I run windows 2000, it has worked before, and i do not know what is wrong. And if i dont patch it, when i load UO it comes up with a brownish/greyish screen with nothing but the UO glove pointer thingy. Any suggestions?

did you patch windows, i think win2k is up to sp5 now, that may help a bunch, make sure DX is installed, your drivers are up to date and did you format with ntfs?

In regards to getting UO patched, is it possible you have a firewall blocking access to the patch server? You might try temporarily disabling any firewall software you might have running and seeing if it will patch then.

Or possibly there is a dead hunk of internet between you and the patch server and just trying again later will work.

if you have the install cd i would install win2k again, then get all the driver updates you can.... then run windows update.... then if that works try to run UO again

It is difficult to help when you simply say "UO still doesn't work".

You say you got windows update working. That is good. One problem fixed with your system.

What steps did you follow to install UO and apply the WoD file release?

Check directory permissions on your c: drive, especially the uo directory. The fact your administrator account was having problems indicates user priv errors, etc.

Check your firewall.
Trying pinging the WoD server.
There are a lot of diagnostic type things you can do to hopefully point out the cause of your problems.

It's pretty obvious that you can see the internet though. It still sounds like UO just isn't installed properly. Honestly, I've managed to install UO LBR and AOS on systems ranging from Windows 95 (really, it used to work fine), NT, ME, 98, 2000, and XP with no problems at all. Once UO was installed, I just got connected to the Net, and we were in business. I wish I could be more help, and I'm beginning to think there's something weird about my systems. They just don't have any trouble with UO--oh except for the time I installed UO and POL on the fileserver at the office and brought our network to its knees, but that's more of a disciplinary matter than a technical one.
