I had started working up this shortish list of shards that might intrest people yesterday and then talked myself out of posting it. Depending on what a person is looking for, one or more of them might be of interest.

Not really sure I'm still all that interested in continuing to play the game if it dosn't include a WoD as an option, but since I've spent a fair bit of time bouncing around checking out other shards over the last while I thought I'd post a few thoughts on the ones that looked most intresting, maybe save a bit of time for others.

Wragg Marsh

Fair number of WoD players playing there now, RUNUO server, extreemly fast skill/stat gain, easy access to what are normally very high end items. It was intresting to see how the higher end items affect the game, I still pop in from time to time, but it's not really what I was looking for. YMMV.

Ackadia

An offshoot of the WoD scriptbase long, long ago, but from what I read on the web page it sounds similar to what we are used to, though it is obviously heavily modified after all this time. One char per account. Permadeath system. Player policed.

I may try it out at some point but havn't as yet, the one char thing is kind of a problem, I get bored doing the same thing all the time, though I suppose having one or more other shards to also play on would get around that issue.

Oblivion

This is probably the closest to WoD in theme, the rule base is fairly similar. Was Sphere recently converted to RUNUO. Scriptbase is still being worked on, several things appear to be only patrially as desired, most notibly the race system.

I never really played it after the runuo conversion, the shard just seemed to be heading more and more in the direction of very high player powerlevel in terms of skill/stat limits and items, just wasn't what I was looking for in a shard, but it may appeal to some people. May be worth noting that they are extreemly strict on the no swearing thing ingame, even if you are alone.

Montis Draconis

RUNUO based shard, not heavily modified in terms of added reasources, 700 skillcap, 225 statcap, fairly fast skill gain, very slow stat gain (I've resorted to macroing stats up to reasonable levels). Has the default RUNUO AI's which I used to think was fairly good, but it kind of falls apart when you get into group hunting. No rules page that I've been able to find so you just kind of have to use your own judgement.

Either this or Ackadia (or both) will probably wind up being my main shard, if I continue on with UO, the lack of rules thus far hasn't been a problem, then again I've mostly been staying on the Trammel facet.

Sorcerors Quest

Based off the WoD scripts, from what I've been told there are a fair number of WoD players there. Role playing seems to be strongly encouraged. Race system. Havn't actually tried it out, so I can't comment all that much on gameplay.

Comraich

I think it is still somewhat based on the WoD scripts, not really sure, they had a major restructuring of the shard a while back. It is a role play server, but provided you arn't in heavily trafficed areas I don't think they force being in character all the time. PS if anyone from there sees this, thanks for the kind words about WoD on your board.

Most of the other shards seem to fall into either wide open pvp for sociopaths or go OOC and get banned catagories.

Not a bad shard at all. They did have some players and staff that I didn't like at all, but they seemed to have all been weeded out and have no real problems with any of the players/staff now. Nor do I know all of the new ones, but a few of those that do remain I know personally in real life and they aren't bad at all (hell a couple are even some of my best friends). Don't forget the custom map.

Well I am going to try all of the 3 listed. Probably will play on all 3. That way if one closes down, I wont be in the position that I am in now. No shard to go to lol.
Xak Soroth
Sorcerors Quest
Wragg Marsh

I hope to see most of you again in these shards.

I think I will also try these three shards, and I hope for no WOD replicas.

First, I am quite saddened to hear of WoD closing.

Second, an official invitation has been extended from the Ackadia host for all WoD 'refugees'. The application process will be bypassed and Ack will process an account as quickly as possible.

Third, a little bit about Ackadia to clear up any possible misconceptions. The foundation for the scripts used for Ackadia are an off-shoot of the WoD scripts. That means that there are numerous similarities between WoD and Ackadia. Inspite of the simiiarities, there are quite a few differences as well. It is a one-character shard. While one might think that playing with one character sounds boring; when you finally have your character maxed out with all of the goodies to make him/her a certified bad@** (which will take a lot of time) you can throw all your gear in the bank and redo your skillset. Trust me when I say that it took me two years of over-playing Ackadia before I got the slightest bit bored. Ackadia is also 'player-policed'. That doesn't mean that it is a pk haven. In fact, we haven't seen a pk on Ackadia for probably around a year. And I believe there have been more thefts on the WoD than there have been on Ackadia as well. We have also just begun 'Ackadia Raw'. Basically, if you start now you won't be more than two weeks behind everyone else. With Ackadia Raw we got a custom map. If you're into exploring new places... it's great.

I invite everyone to at least check it out. Email ack@carolina.rr.com and he will set you up. If you decide it's not for you; stop logging in. My motivation for this post is two-fold. I think most of you will find a home in Ackadia to you love equally as much as you loved your home on WoD. Also, being both form Ackadia and WoD myself; I'd like to see as many of the players I remember playing with when I regulary logged into WoD. And I'd like to see the spirit of WoD live on somewhere where I am certain that the players and admin are all already bought into the vision of what playing UO should be... fun - for all.
