Listen to this guy people this is good wisdom! Really wish more tanks learned that there is a time for swords and a time for bows.

I've been on some quests where its like a neverending race of tanks running ahead to meet casters, waking up more casters and running after them, repeat, repeat... The the mages dont get a chance to stop and meditate or get left behind until the tanks inevitably die.

Hail All
I think some tanks should try arrows why not,
but not all for sure.
As Mage should be with the tanks for range attacks
also would be nice.

my tank has archery as a secondary and when i see mages or archers they eat arrows on short notice usually ignoring the mobs surronding me :D

You all have heard of those trust training exercises right? where you fall backward and make no effort save yourself trusting that the person behind you will catch you, well this would hopefully be the WoD equivalent of that.

...

Assuming there is some interest, I'm thinking Saturday the 20th around 3 EST.

As my 7 year old son would say "Awwww... I wanna go." *sticking lower lip out. Mumbling..."I gotta work"*

I surely hope that all who go have a wonderful time ... not only to bid you all good luck but also for the selfish reason of hoping it IS a success so maybe I could go if it happens again.

wrapup part 1

Postby Eldric on Sat Sep 20, 2003 10:49 pm

Just wanted to post a really big thank you to everyone who attended (and whomever it was that set the maps up that we wound up finding), it was a blast, in no particular order the participants were:
Edison
Issenth
Argyll Kaie
Michella
Belle Remmings
Cyrus Eisengrim <-- had point for a good bit of our time on Buc's
Augur Wildwood
Nicholao Samson
Malox Xandermaya
Adonis Agave
Ralf Stormrider <-- had the thankless point man job for most of the hunt
Kalisten Vero

A very quick no story overview of how it went, there may be a story coming.

We gathered at Old Britain Bank, teamed up mage and tank combo's with a minimum of fuss and headed over to troll town, unfortunately there was all of a dozen or so which really proved to be no problem.

Next stop, the Praetorian camp up by sacrifice, breaking into the clearing was a bit of a chore (mostly los issues), but once inside we made quick work of them, the only real note to make here was the discovery of "Bash Em Goods treasure map*, we talked it over and decided to give it a try, turns out it was down by the Snow orc camp, the spawn was a piece of cake and we weren't even slowed down.

You see: Xaakt the Orcish Cleric
You see: Hibub
You see: Vergu the orc warrior
You see: Xug the orc warrior
You see: Vuiltag the Orc Captain
You see: Vorgak the Orc Captain

The chest contained some treasure and another map "Beware Dark Alleys*, this one was in Vesper Graveyard, and spawned:

You see: a vampire knight
You see: an ancient vampire

You see: a vampire knight
You see: a vampire
You see: a vampire mage
You see: a vampire knight
You see: a vampire
You see: a vampire
You see: a vampire
You see: a vampire

Pretty much almost everybody died. Couple survived to res the rest of us, regroup and kill them off, we all mostly died due to sticking together so I'm calling this one a huge success.

The chest contained some loot and another map "So Very Scaley", located outside cove which spawned:

You see: Xiltanth
You see: Arkanis
You see: a drake
You see: a drake
You see: Galtor the Ancient
You see: Mazrim the Ancient
You see: a drake

We didn't even try to do this one head on, but our fighting withdrawal didn't really go very well, I think 3 people went down, We DID manage to kill both ancients, at the time it looked like one may have gotten away, but my log shows both corpses.

The chest contained some loot and another map "A Ghostly Good Time" located (you knew this was coming) on Buc's, there was some discussion about this one, I'll be honest, I wasn't too keen on going there, but go we did.

The map site was guarded by assorted giant rats, and pirate ghosts and spawned:

You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost

You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost
You see: a pirate ghost

and contained a special prize a Fishtank deed, which Issenth won.

All in all it was a blast, everyone tells me they had a great time, so probably there will be more of these in the future, to those who wanted to attend but couldn't, what I would like to know is, is Saturday always bad and a different day needed, or was it just this one.

Oh, last note, we could probably use a different name for this kind of hunt, I was in a bit of a bad mood when I posted about it originally. Anyone have any good titles?

We gathered at the old Brit bank. Each mage was assigned a tank to heal and our marching order was established. Ralf Stormrider would take point, tanks in front, mages to the rear. All of us would keep Ralf's bar up to heal him if needed.

Where to start? We were all unbuffed, wearing and wielding only player-made gear (no magics aside from jewelry). We decided to try the Minoc trolls first. We gated in, proceeded to their stomping grounds and rode through them like a hot knife through butter. Even the troll mages toppled in a few seconds at most. Despite a few minutes of re-establishing our marching order and reaffirming our strategy, all went well. Very soon, no trolls were left! It seems that about a dozen tanks and mages are a formidable force, even unbuffed and using plain gear. What now?

We decided Praetorians would be a good step up challenge-wise. We gated in just above their Northern camp and rode South a bit. As soon as we entered their clearing we were mobbed! I had stepped forward too far and several Praetorians targetted me. But the tanks held their ground and taunted the enemy away. The mages healed and blasted left and right, meditating whenever they got a chance. In just a few minutes they were defeated and a strange map was discovered. :) We cleared out the remaining Praetorians and discussed what to do next.

The map of course! It was called: "Bash Em Goods treasure map" and indicated an area South of Yew, near the mountains. We gated to Yew and rode South. Despite being ambushed by a horrifying Corpser along the way, we made it in safety and discovered that the map lead us near the Snow Orc Fort. We arrived and the inhabitants came out to greet us, cheerilly waving their axes. We said hello back and set to. Trust party 12, Snow Orcs 0. We dug up the chest. There was some concern here since Edison told us the last "special" treaure map he'd dug up had spawned 4 Ancient dragons, a couple Royals, and assorted other nasties. We all stood well back. A large host of Orcs spawned from the chest and we were very busy for a few minutes, but we prevailed. Again, no deaths... on our side. ;)

But yet another map had been found. :) This one was titled: "Beware Dark Alleys". We had to do it of course.... It led us to an area East of Covetous, just how far East we didn't suspect until we got to the Vesper graveyard. The map lead us inside of course! Again, we got ready, Nicholao assuming his now regular role as chest popper. Everyone said "Ready", or "Yep", or "Let's Rock!", the chest was popped, and chaos ensued. About 20 vampires of all descriptions poured out of the chest. We held our ground for about 15 seconds before the first death cry was heard: Edison. I'd had his bar and tried to heal him, but the graves blocked line of sight. But my other heals had caught the notice of the vamps and I fell shortly after. Then, one after another death cries rang accross the land (in quick succession: Belle, Ralf, Cyrus, Michella, Adonis, etc.) until I was sure we all must be dead. But I ran for the gate and found there a couple of stout survivors. We were ressed and went back, got our things while the vamps were otherwise engaged, and joined in again to finish them off. Another map was found called "So Very Scaley"!

This one lead to Cove. We all groaned but we went. We designated a meeting place if things went bad, formed up, and moved out. The Ophidians cooling their heals outside the town came to investigate us and we quickly put them down. We cleared the area and dug up the chest. Nicholao popped it and Dragons popped out. I hit my new macro: "RETREAT!!!" several times and ran for the town. Alas the door was only half open and stuffed with dragons trying to follow Nicholao. I quickly lost stamina trying to push past them and one or two decided I'd make a nice snack in Nick's stead. A couple others fell in the first few minutes, but quickly we recoverred and won the day. A new map was found: "A Ghostly Good Time" and it led to Buccaneer's Den!

Well, we'd (mostly) made it this far. We were game! Off to Buccs we went and fought our way along the coast to the NW part of town. There we were greeted by "Pirate Ghosts" and "Giant Rat Warriors" and other such. We cleared the area around and dug up the chest. Nicholao stepped in again (and we stepped well back) and the final battle was engaged: more pirate ghosts and more mean giant rats than you could shake a stick at. But eventually they were dispatched and we prevailed without a single death.

We returned to Britain to divied the spoils. Many nice items had been found, including a fishtank deed. More importantly, we all had a great time! We worked together well and, although there were a lot of scary moments (and one moment in the Vesper GY when it seemed all was lost) we won out in the end! Thanks much to Edison for organizing the event and a big thanks to the Seer(s) who crashed it and helped make it a really special one! Lastly, thanks to everyone who came. It wouldn't have been the same without you. You were all great! :D

Thanks Ed for putting this together. This was a lot of fun and very exciting! And thank you PTB for helping make it unique. Amazing how unbuffed and non-uber tanks, archers, and mages made those baddies shudder in their boots :warrior:

I could have sworn there were more dragons. Oh well, I guess in the heat of battle I lost track.

I think everyone who went had a lot of fun. I could really see how the tanks and mages rely on each other.

The tank/mage pair system worked pretty well. (Though maybe each tank should watch two mages closely.) As a tank my suggestion to mages is to try to stand back and clear of others. That way its easy to see if something goes for you, and target it with a taunt.

The highlight of the hunt for me was fighting one of the Ancient dragons. Without any buffs it took heavy healing from Ed to keep me alive. I taunted that dragon back on me though whenever it lunged for a mage or one of the other warriors pelting it with arrows. Took us quite I while to kill it in our wimpy state, but it was satisfying when it finally fell.

Hail All
I also enjoyed the quest, as I test out a few things myself. I do play a mage character yet I do
enjoy the up front play.
Tonight I kept my mage in the front and enjoyed the
time, oh and only die once and that was at the grave
yard where all died.
Would enjoy doing this again alot of fun
:)
