Time to Reevaluate United States involvement 7/3/2004 12:35:47 AM

Every day there are news reports about more deaths. Every night on TV there are photos of death and destruction.

Why are we still there?

We occupied this land, which we had to take by force, but it causes us nothing but trouble.

Why are we still there?

Many of our children go there and never come back.

Why are we still there?

Their government is unstable, and they have sloppy leadership.

Why are we still there?

Many of their people are uncivilized.

Why are we still there?

The place is subject to natural disasters, from which we are supposed to bail them out.

Why are we still there?

There are many hostile religious sects, which we do not understand.

Why are we still there?

Their folkways, foods, and fads are unfathomable to ordinary Americans.

Why are we still there?

We can't even secure the borders.

Why are we still there?

They are billions of dollars in debt and it will cost billions more to rebuild, which we can't afford.

Why are we still there?

It is becoming VERY clear . . . WE MUST PULL OUT OF CALIFORNIA ! ! !

It was bush's friends at Enron that put CA in that much debt, bear that in mind.

Yeah that's them aint it beautiful? Now lets all remember that it aint over till your brother counts the votes and daddy fixes the rest. Florida is still trying to get their new electronic "foolproof" voting system to work right lol. I forsee a major screwup once more here in Florida, not due to a mistake but due to human ummm "error" yeah

If we're having another Bush-bash fest, then I have some more fuel to throw on the fire: the complete mismanagement of the Iraq reconstruction fund. Congress allocated over $18 billion to help rebuild Iraq (to be spent on power systems, water systems, health care, etc.) So far, less than $0.5B has been spent, and most of that has been for 'Administrative expenses'. A water purification plant for Bahgdad that was supposed to be completed already hasn't even had its preliminary survey done to figure out where to build it, and so on. The US agency which is responsible for spending the fund (the CPA) refuses to give a detailed spending account to the UN, which legally is supposed to be in control of the fund. Al in all, another stunning system of corruption set up by the Bush administration.

i just read in the NY times that the actuarial was threatened with dismissal if he had actually told congress what bush's new (last year) medicaid package was going to really cost the gov't. guess he figured a cost overun of 1 to 2 hundred billion dollars would look better if it happened after he was out of office.

think these guys are ever gonna figure that it all comes out in the wash in the end?

assuming that was for me.

no i haven't jumped on the bandwagon. I've been seriously underimpressed with bush jr for a long time. his view of the world is entirely too simplistic for a president. his economic policies appear to be those which pass this test. Is this policy good for the already rich and/or large companies if yes then implement, if no then obsfucate and delay. if anything goes wrong blame the democrats for being unpatriotic.

some of his notions are so ludicrous as to be beyond belief much less comprehension. for example he advocated drilling in the arctic wildlife reserve. he is moving to gut the clean air act. he has largely gutted the endangered species act. he attempted to quash a 9-11 independant inquiry then tried to deny it access to information, has hid behind executive privilege rather than answer questions about his actions.

it will be interesting in time to see what history records about jr's (hopefully) 4 years as president.
