Old Tales and Intro to BD2
Part 1- Origin Origins

If you actually read enough of this long-winded and self-congratulatory drivel, at some point you will wonder what in the world dead characters on an OSI shard have to do with the original Buc’s Den adventure and the upcoming sequel. That question will be answered in the equally long-winded and self-congratulatory sequel to this piece: Part 2- The Voice of a God. I advise you to skip both and just re-read some Dr. Seuss instead.
Characters of Lake Superior
In the beginning, there was Origin. One could argue that WoD had its beginnings on Lake Superior Shard, OSI. It was there that Dundee and Shade played and where Dundee fell in love with some of Ultima Online and also where he became frustrated with its fatal flaws. As Dreamweaver has sung, it was the people of Lake Superior who first dreamed the dream the WoD became.
Homer Newby
Yet there were also lesser beginnings on that same shard that would eventually intersect with the more significant timeline of the Great Worldbuilder. Of all of the insignificant characters who were have been born into the virtual online worlds, it is hard to imagine that any could have been less significant than Homer Newby. He was my second or third character and, as such, I put a lot of thought into his “back story.â€

Very entertaining! Thanks for sharing this with us Homer; and unlike you, I enourage people to read it all the way through. Like Ehran said, that last line is a gut buster!

Your ability to tell a good story is, as always, top notch. I have to admit, this one got plenty of laughs out of me.

Perhaps you could introduce this game of "Clash", to us here at WoD? I'd love to see more player-run events going around.

The guys at work and I are still chuckling over that line.

OT: when were you on Lake Superior? That's where I played originally.

Let's see, I came to the original WoD in the late summer of 1999, after something between a year and two years on Lake Superior.
Ty came to WoD, left for a while, then returned for a time. He started up Clash on WoD, but as far as I know, there was only one meet. I'm not sure why it didn't continue. As I said, I am a terrible p v p player, so it really isn't my sort of thing. If there is interest, I can share what I know of the concept and someone can give it a try again. I'm sure Ty/Sy would approve.

I participated in that Clash here on WoD and it was held in the Jhelom Pits. The problem was, LAG, to put it mildly. A lot of mages were there and between them casting, the spectators, the tamed animals and henchies--it wasn't pretty. (That and the person who started it (Dex) left shortly thereafter.) This was back when Aellius had the home in Cove and Dex and his son Zander both had homes in Cove too, along with Lucy Planter and her now husband (can't remember his name, but it's right on the tip of my tongue).

Now if a Clash could be set up outside, kinda like a king of the hill thing where you kill all the other team and claim Cove Orc Fort (or Cove Ophidian Fort), that would be cool. The problem there is, what about spectators? I also thought that the Heart Clearing would be ideal for a Clash Match, but if you die, you lose skill (outside of the Pits). There would be plenty of room for spectators, however.

Anyway, Homer, having another Clash tournament would be fantabolous!

That was great, Homer. I tried to write my own OSI origin but it kept growing and growing! I tried three times before giving up due to excessive length. I'll think on it and try to produce a condensed version sometime.

Yes, Atei, Dex was the reincarnation of Sy who was the reincarnation of Ty, a fine friend and the guy who introduced me to WoD.

I really liked him when he was here on WoD. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy, and I miss having him around.
