Old Tales and Intro to BD2
Part 1- Origin Origins
If you actually read enough of this long-winded and self-congratulatory drivel, at some point you will wonder what in the world dead characters on an OSI shard have to do with the original Buc’s Den adventure and the upcoming sequel. That question will be answered in the equally long-winded and self-congratulatory sequel to this piece: Part 2- The Voice of a God. I advise you to skip both and just re-read some Dr. Seuss instead.
Characters of Lake Superior
In the beginning, there was Origin. One could argue that WoD had its beginnings on Lake Superior Shard, OSI. It was there that Dundee and Shade played and where Dundee fell in love with some of Ultima Online and also where he became frustrated with its fatal flaws. As Dreamweaver has sung, it was the people of Lake Superior who first dreamed the dream the WoD became.
Homer Newby
Yet there were also lesser beginnings on that same shard that would eventually intersect with the more significant timeline of the Great Worldbuilder. Of all of the insignificant characters who were have been born into the virtual online worlds, it is hard to imagine that any could have been less significant than Homer Newby. He was my second or third character and, as such, I put a lot of thought into his “back story.â€
