Simulcasting

Postby Eldric on Thu Apr 01, 2004 6:45 pm

Currently, several spell casting functions each run on thier own timer (well that's how it appears to work), so that it's effectivly possible to cast multiple spells at the same time.

We have:

Regular spellbook casting, delay first then spell effect
Scroll casting, spell effect first then delay
Auto heal, automatically kicks in when your healh hits x% of maximum, delay first then spell effect
Necromancy spells, delay first then spell effect
Druidtry spells, delay first then spell effect

I can't really comment on Necro and Druidry all that much, I have been told simulcasting works with necro and regular spells

Anway, let's take a case where someone is starting to get low on hp and decides to use a healing scroll to heal themself at roughly the same time autoheal kicks in and fires off a greater heal, basically your getting 2 greater heals being cast at the same time, if the person really wanted to they could use a greater healing scroll on themself and then follow up immediatly with a book cast, so both the scroll timer and the bookcast timer are running at the same time for a total of 3 heals.

Another instance of this is alternating attack spells between scroll casting and book casting, for example book cast lightning, scroll cast ebolt, book cast lightning, scroll cast ebolt is a very powerful attack combo.

Maybe this isnt really much of a problem, you stll use the appropriate regents/scrolls/mana but I wonder if its possible *no clue* if all these things shouldn't share a common timer so that only one can be used at a time.

I believe this is still an issue and probably should be fixed.

It's definately a bug/exploit sort of an issue, and a game-balance one. But it does come down to the equivocal "tank/mage balancing" issue that many people believe should exist, and has been argued to death, undeath, zombie death, zombie ghost pirate death.. etc etc.

Perhaps all these promises of 'big changes' will have something interesting in them.
