why would one marco? what good can it do?

It can be used to make basic craftables like scrolls, potions, food etc.

I have even seen someone macromining sand (which I think shouldnt be allowed because all places to mine are very public places).

Drocket put it very nice way: permitted but not encouraged =)

Ok, Thanks. I read the rules and didn't see anything about macroing - let alone unattended macroing. It really isn't a concern for me. I wouldn't even know how to do it. The only reason I would use a macro would be for resourcing but as you say, there are too many things to go wrong to attempt unattended macroing. Other shards, I have read, put people in prison for reasons of being AFK. WoDs just kills you with some kind of event. I would say that is incentive enough not to do it. lol

Hmm.. to put it right. GM:s are not killing you..you will be getting some strange connection problems and maybe you might even drop off the server =)

No, sorry that was easily misunderstood .. I need to amend my statement. WoD just *indirectly* kills you by different events "like" critter spawns when mining, fishing or logging. Hence the lack of specifics about macroing *attended or unattended* in the rules. If you are not there to see the spawns of the elementals or Ents, then you might die for doing something you shouldn't really be doing in the first place ... pretty well balanced system if you ask me. *checks and balances* Afterall, the staff is not there to babysit us. :)

The manual DOES tell you about these possible events when using your trade skills so, one should be able to put 2 and 2 together to get atleast 3. :)

well you could macro up your stats if you set a long enough loop for wandering someplace safe. walk a set path say 50 paces long or so should be enough.
if you run a vendor you could do a macro to make say scrolls or potions to sell. wouldn't be much trouble to do so was a person so inclined. rather a waste of server resources and bandwidth however and frowned upon for that reason.

you should be able to design a miner or lumberjack who can survive macroing without much fuss.

Why would it be a waste if it was something that someone would be doing anyways?

If your going to be on to make 1000 scrolls of something what does it really matter if you are at your computer or not?

That´s why unattended macroing is allowee. Even those who say that they don´t macro unattended seem to be quite often "afk" when scribing =)

They're not afk. They're just consentrating really really hard on scribing.

It's good with no need for macroing i think.
On the shard i played at before macroing was allowed during a specific time. Macroing makes the game unbalanced, the guys that are able to macro alot, kills the rest of the shard.

When gathering resources of any type, there is always a chance of spawning something nasty. Of course, you might be built up enough to handle anything that springs up out of a cave, mine, beach, forest or swamp but it isn't something one should count on.

I suppose it all has to do with "living" in the virtual world. One can be a powergamer and macro scrolls, potions, mine or chop wood but to me that is cheating. However, the main person you cheat is yourself.

This isn't supposed to be "just" a game. To truly enjoy it you should immerse yourself in the virtual world and live the fantasy life. If your fantasy life includes creating 1000 scrolls at one sitting, then sit there and do it.

Setting up a macro to repetitively accomplish a specific action is a bit different, although most actions auto-loop in WoD thus removing the need for macro programs entirely, in my opinion.

WoD isn't about powergaming and "getting ahead". It is about enjoying the rich fantasy world that Drocket, Siobhan, Sebastian, Laephis and whomever else are providing for us.

If you powergame, you aren't really enjoying the world, are you?

I think powergaming may be a little harsh of a word for what most of the Bank-sitting scribes are doing. I know them to be mostly really nice people who "get" the spirit of the shard. Powergaming means trying to get all the stats, rewards, etc. that you can from a game usually so you can lord it over the other gamers. That's not what I see happening from these people. I see them getting all the grunt work done that they can as easily as possible so that they have stuff to share when someone needs them or so that they have enough to take on their group hunts where all the real fun is.

As far as I can tell, macroing here on WOD has more to do with getting the game mechanics out of the way quickly so that you can have more playtime with your friends when they're available to play. I'd never call that powergaming.
