GM pages

Postby Kramer Vorlock on Sun May 02, 2004 10:20 pm

I was wondering if I were to page a GM then go off line, when I log back in would the page still be there or would I have to do a new one? Also would the page work if you were on a different charater?

A page will be there when you log back in. If you page again, it actually removes your previous page from the queue. I am not sure, but I do believe the page is account based, so applies to all your characters.

Actually, the page is character based. If you log off or log on as a different character we won't see the page.

Is there any way to get them account based?

It kind of makes sense to me that they are character based. If a specific character is having a problem or a question, then they should be in-game when the GM arrives.

I gm'd on another shard (a sphere shard) a couple of years ago and we had account based pages. Nothing more frustrating to show up to help someone and either wait until they change characters or have them expect us to fix or examine the other char even if it wasn't logged in. "Well, you are a GM, why do I have to log him in? Don't you just KNOW?"

Another aspect I like is that if the problem is important enough to you, you'll stay in-game to get the resolution. If you don't have the patience for it, then the problem can't be that severe. Unless, of course, a player gets stuck somewhere. That is the only exception I can think of.

Well if your stuck and there is not a gm on your not going to sit there doing nothing for the next hour or so.

Could we make it wher if we log out then back on the page is still there? Becasue often times I have waited 5+ hours for a reply and not gotten one. I get so bored that I have to log off.

That's how it is now. Logging out doesn't delete the page, but your page is only visible when you are logged on.

Tip: Use .q to check the status of your page :)

Heh - I didn't know about that one :P

As was already said, you can log out and your help page is still around and valid when you log back in (though GMs can't help you when you're not online.) Pages probably should be account-based, and I'll probably rewrite them to be so one of these days. That's kind of a lot of work for such a minor problem, though, so its not real high on the list.
