DOS Gaming

Talk about games other than WoD - PC games, PS2, GameCube, XBox, GBA and more

Rhys...

If your going back to play the old games, the old Gold Box AD&D games like, Champions of Krynn etc. are an absolute must. Along with Zork :D

Talk about old stuff, i only 24 and i prefer the old games to all this flash, jerk, and twitch stuff now adays. Call me old fashion, but the old Adventure games were really well done, the old Gold Box stuff was the best ever.

Daggerfall was and is one of my favorite games. I forgot though if it was dos or windows or both?

Daggerfall is mostly DOS, I believe. I know for sure that it runs under a complete DOS system (because I just ran it last week on my DOS-only machine), but I'm pretty sure it also runs with older versions of Windows (95/98). I've heard it's a pain to get to run under Windows XP though.

I've still got a whole stack of old rpg's I need to get around to playing. I never finished most of them. *looks at rpg collection and sighs*

And there's a few adventures I haven't played yet, mostly because I bought them before I had my DOS-machine set up, and they refused to run under Windows (stupid memory issues and whatnot).

Try using a Visulization driver if you know what that is. If you don't try to get ahold of a fellow techy like me and see if he/she can do something like that for you. 8)

It is a driver that fools the program that is running say on Windows XP into thinking it is running off of say DOS. What I am saying is that if you wanted to run this DOS game off of Windows XP all you would have to do is install a visualization driver on Windows XP. :)

Heh. I still keep an old 486SX2 around for my old DOS games. It has a whopping 4 MB RAM, 50MHz processor, and a 348MB HD. Oh, and a Sound Blaster 16. Woot!

My favorite games were the Ultima series (Ultima 6, 7, and 7 part 2 were my favorites), Ultima Underworld 1 and 2, Star Control 2, Wing Commanders 1 and 2, the LSL series, X-Wing, and System Shock.

Ah, I remember Ultima Underworld. I have 1 and 2 here (as part of my "Ultimate RPG Archives"). Sadly, I can't really play those. Everytime I do, I get nauseous, stupid motion-sickness.

Well that's easy enough to fix. Just take some Dramamine before you start playing...

Seriously though, I do get kind of woozy every now and then, especially if I play something like Quake 3. Too much fast movement.

Wing Commander Armada rocked. I loved strip mining planets until they were just worthless rock. It was fun.

The game came on disks, too. Six, I think. Those were the days.

Oh please....old? Heaven help me....I have a dos rpg that is text only....green text that is...and I was old when I played it. *grins*

Rhys Duir, does your brother have Twinion? It still has a resale value and was my all time favorite Sierra game. Such great puzzles and riddles. It came on like 6 or 7 3 1/2 inch diskettes.....used mine to create rescues disks when I was ticked off at the game....could just kick myself now.

argh any air combat game where crashing into your foe is a valid combat tactic oughta be trashed on the spot. i still have bitter memories of those horrid stealth fighters in wing commander. when my friend said they were pretty easy to get rid of by just ramming them i was so po'ed i went home and deleted the game.
