Champion Spawn

Another OSI idea that actually works well and is exciting. I've spent a fair bit of time trying to figure out how to even post about this, last week on another shard I got to do my first champion spawn and it seriously rocked. Start to finish the thing took probably 3 hours. God it was exciting. I was going to try to describe how it works in practice but I really can't do the things justice. Some details can be found here. Again the reward structure is totally inappropriate for WoD but heck, I'd take part in the things just for the sake of doing them.

We are in no way trying to make it OSI, but OSI did do some stuff right, and we would like to add new and fun things.

What did you do Fitz--macro that?

I don't think anyone is suggesting that WoD become "OSI II," but to say that something won't be introduced just because OSI does it isn't right. For all the flaws in OSI, they are doing some things right.

I'm not saying that champion spawn is a good idea (althought it does sound pretty intriguing), but I can't see the logic in shooting something down just because OSI does it.

I followed the link from the first post, and checked out the details on this champion spawn thingie... Although I would have to agree that as it is right now, it's awefully OSI-like, I think it would be an excellent idea to bring here. I mean, power scrolls have never really grabbed my attention because I feel they are simply are way to make the already powerful MORE powerful, and the weak... well, stay weak. But the whole idea behind it seems very interesting and I'd love to see Drocket get his hands on it... just to see what the D-man would do with it! :)

Yes, as I said the OSI style rewards (power scrolls) really woudln't work for WoD, thats just a bad buisness all around. I don't really have any other reward ideas but just the doing of the spawn was an unbelievable amount of fun.

*thinks* Pehaps a plaque "I survived (mostly) the whosit champ spawn of YYYYMMDD".

Exactly! I mean, imagine the fun! 250 orcs or trolls or whatever in 10 minutes! Then, you gotta do it again! And again! And AGAIN! Till finally the big old Grand-daddy pops out to put a real hurt on ya... sounds like a grand time to me! I would definitely be out there searching for the spawns daily.

Idea! What if the "special" reward was a Benson Potion? Not too powerful (as anyone who's gotten those fine gloves of defense knows), but powerful enough to make it worth it... (as anyone who's gotten a nice +4 - +8 buff item knows.) Plus, the fun that would go along with it... I mean, the whole thing in its entirety seemed a big longwinded to me, so, maybe toning it down a bit might be in order, but the thing definitely sounds like a wing-ding of a time to me.

I wanna know when were gonna have another Bucs challenge that was fun maybe switch things around a bit to make it a little different but i had a blast even though we all died a zillion times, hehe

Seconded. :)

One thing that bugs me with the way the champion spawn works, and that's the illogic of the idea 'the more X you kill, the stronger they get.' Just seems backwards...

Ok, getting past that: The challenge of killing as many monsters as you can as quickly as you can does sound like a fun one. It would definitely be a fun quest/contest sort of thing, if nothing else. I'll have to think of the best way to do something like that.

Yes, the killing many to make them stronger does seem kinda silly, but killing as many as we can in a given period of time sounds like super fun. Groups, or even solo adventurers out there in a mad dash to slay em all..... good times to be had...
