Wither the ShadowPack

Postby Bayn on Sun Apr 25, 2004 2:12 pm

Hurriedly I pulled on my plate armor and checked the condition of my waraxe. I quickly took an inventory of my pack. Greater Heals and Cures, lots of bandages, other assorted potions and wands, ok I was set, I hoped.

I gated to the Shame and galloped Darlin' through the woods toward the Druid Grove. The High Druid Vernon was going to give the defenders of Light some instructions on how to end the deadly menace of the ShadowPack infestation in Yew.

I joined the large assembly of defenders that were gathered around him and listened closely. After giving us his general plan, Druid Vernon created a portal to a strange world that seemed somehow familiar. We were inside a small enclosure that contained the portal we had come through and three barred gates. Three keys resided in three shadowkeeps in this strange land. Our goal was to make our way to the keeps, retrieve the keys and lock the magic gates to prevent shadow spawn from invading our beloved WoD.

It was a wild, unorganized, frantic sort of affair. Some members of the crowd shouted and claimed they were leaders and exhorted others to follow them. Others just galloped off wildly to search for the keeps. Shadowpacks prowled everywhere and venturing out alone was obviously not a good idea as death knells rang out rapidly.

We split roughly into two groups and started searching, fighting shadowpacks the entire way. A keep was discovered! Shadowknights and shadowmages infested it but could not hold back the pure flame of Good that burned within our spirits. In short, they all bought the farm and ended up as fertilizer. I found a magic key and handed it to Shadowstone to keep safe.

We started searching for the other keeps and the groups fragmented. More death cries rang out at intervals. After a long time, the group I was traveling with found another keep. Another vicious, unrelenting battle with some heavy duty shadowknights and shadowmages as well as hordes of shadowpacks and once again I found a magic key in my loot pack! This one I kept to hand to the High Druid personally.

We were informed that the third keep had been found and vanquished as well and made our way back to the High Druid Vernon who had been guarding the portal in our absence. We all gathered inside the small portal room and three of us used our magic keys to lock the gates. Ahhh, we were victorious!

Druid Vernon opened the portal and we all returned the keys to him and listened as he complimented our courage and perseverance. He also spoke of the possible future of the shadow spawn. We retured the Britain bank to split the loot after this. Four or five wondrous, magical quest items were found as well as endless shadowpack hides, gold, gems and miscellaneous.

It was a glorious event in the history of WoD. Regardless of our general, massive unorganization and lack of teamwork, our sheer numbers managed to fight our way to victory.

Somewhere during the long event, I lost the leather bound journal that I always carry with me to jot down notes and thus cannot list the names of the participants or quote the High Druid's words. So much happened that I cannot even relate discrete incidents since the entire evening was an unending series of events happening one after another in quick succession. Perhaps others can add their memories of the event here?

The Shadowpacks will not invade Yew any longer but be wary! Remnants still prowl the forests and are armed and dangerous. Once they are finally hunted down and destroyed, they will spawn no more.

Hey! This has been up all day and 39 people have looked at it. Does ANYONE have Druid Vernon's last words after we passed back through the portal? I was busy trying to troubleshoot stuff with SS since he was locked out and missed it all. I also promised Bronwyn I'd access my journal and let her know but alas, it was turned off somehow. Must look into that.

Also, any other personal reflections, experiences, etc, etc on the quest?
