Here's an idea for VG's

Postby Crozius on Wed Apr 28, 2004 3:30 pm

Being a VG is great and all, but sometimes it can be a little bit dull hunting the same places over and over. So, I have an idea that might make us enjoy the character's a little bit more.

How about sometime in the next few weeks, we arrange a purely VG hunt. (Henchies would be necessary). I was thinking that maybe we could try somewhere rather hard like destard (nice and open for us fighters and archers). Other suggestions work too.

I thought this would be fun because it'd give us a chance to actually "command" numerous things at one time. Not only would we have to watch our henchies as usual, but also look out for fellow VG's. If you're interested, leave a message here and I'll start arranging it.

Oh, Chaos and Order are both welcome, of course.

The OSS is planning (well at this point I should say I am planning) to have a buffless, tanks only hunt, open not only VGs but for anyone else who may want to join. The idea of course is that while hunting is fine and all, hunting and dying a lot (and not caring about it) is even more fun!
It is also a way to challenge ourselves and to see how well we manage without our uber armor and gear. Better still, how well will tanks do in a group with no magi! I'd be very surprised if ANY of us manages to survive say, an expedition to Wind in that 'state.' :)

I still haven't figured out how to make sure people are not "cheating" and slip on some magic buffs in the course of the hunt. Of course, if you die and we find you with those items you'll be glad the mobs got you first and you've already died once that day
Anyhow, I'll probably going to have to end up making armor/wpn sets for every participant and have them come naked (with a robe on of course) and carrying only basic resources like bandages and healing potions. I'm not yet sure if we should allow healing scrolls or not . . .

Actually, this is a very bad idea. I've tried hunting with only three VGs and their six henchmen before. Ugh, what a nightmare. Unless they're all carrying bows, it is near impossible to control such large amount of NPCs, however great their AI is supposed to be (kinda reminds you on this past weekend's quest, doesn't it?). A group twice as large could have as many as 18 characters (PCs + henchies) with twelve of those having only half a brain. The spam from all the "commands" alone would be enough to lag players to death. Unfortunately, I don't believe a VG hunt with henchies is something we would want to have.

You bring up a really good point Joram, I never thought about the lag issue. However, I think that with it would take more than 3 VG's plus henchies to actually cause noticable lag. It would be possible to organize this in a way so that it minimizes the choas of having every player calling out commands constantly.

There could be a front line set of VG's using only melee weapons along with their henchies, and a second line using only archery along with their henchies (also using bows). Provided that the whole group moves in one direction at a time (much like battles were fought in ancient Greek times) it should create less "All follow, All kill, All heal me etc etc etc." Of course, that's just an idea.

If this doesn't go over, I'd gladly join your buffless hunt when it takes place. It sounds like a lot of fun :). It will be open to Chaos guards too, right?
