I replanted the whole field, except for the wheat. It was there already. I, however, do not have the time to harvest the field on a weekly basis. Anyone wanting to help out, please go out and harvest part of the field so it doesn't decay again.

Seems like it has decayed like hell :/
The flax up north-west is still ok, come people harvest up and/or replace the decayed plants.

If it's not in use, why make the effort to maintain it? It's clear from this post that while people may in fact be using the field, it's certainly not being used to it's full potential.

My suggestion is either to leave it be entirely, or only perhaps plant half the field, or any other fraction deemed appropriate.

There's certainly no point re-planting the crops over and over if they're not being used.

Well, if it isn't there people won't be getting cheap bandages.

perhaps that farm could be replanted and locked down so as to not decay

I am sorry that I haven't been around to keep up the farm the last few months. I had been maintaining it for around a year now, but I recently started my first job out of college and haven't had a lot of time to play. I also recently got engaged and I am having to begin wedding planning :)
Some of you may know my fiance, Naelyan Dracona, however she doesn't play that often anymore.

I got so caught up in everything that I did realize that it had been over two weeks since I had last logged on and most of the farm had decayed by that point. So I sort of figured that nobody was really using the farm anymore, and also I was low on funds after having to replant the orchard a few months ago when a player purposely destroyed the orchard :(

I logged in today I was surprised that somebody had replanted the farm. I am glad to know that some of you took up maintaining the farm in my absense.

Simon, I really like your idea for making the farm permanent. Would save me from having to replant it every few months. Especially since it cost me around 140k gold last time :) If this would happen I would gladly shell out the last of my gold to make a permanent farmland and orchard in Britain. I had mostly been maintain the farm for the use of other players anyways and I love it if it could be made a permanent addition to the Britain Farmlands :farming:

Glad things are going well for you.

My point on the farm land is that the decay and count limit was put in to keep the item count low, however there doesn't seem to be enough players playing to keep it from decaying. So if it was set to not decay at that peice of land only, we could have public lands for use by all.

If there aren't enough people to keep the place from decaying, why should a huge pile of items be kept from decay?

It also stands to reason that it would take away the 'effort' of farming, which would only devalue the practice more. Fairness comes into question too about all the other farming locations, and if they should be locked down or not.

I don't think there's been a counter to the idea of just farming a smaller amount of the field, rather than replacing the *whole* thing every time. Sow only what you intend to reap!

I think the point is to have a public farm for all to use, planting crops isn't cheap and newbies couldn't really plant a farm of their own.

I guess the farm could be compared to library or museum.

Please note the library didn't recieve any help, especially when it came to 'locking down'.

Marius,
The reason I was upkeeping that farm was for public use. If I was just doing it for myself I would have just maintained a smaller farm closer to my house.
