To us older players, Uthr Rhain was a friend, a confidant and someone you could count on in a pinch. To me, he was and is like a brother, and I love him.
When I first started on WoD, Uthr let me "bunk" with him in Rhain Tower, much the same way we were roommates in Arizona, and he taught me more than I can possibly remember about WoD. Quite possibly the best lesson he instilled in me was the fierce devotion and caring he had for this World of Dreams. When I would complain about the connection or some other inconsequential matter, he would gently (and sometimes not so gently) remind me that the staff of WoD do what they do for free, including the hosting, and those of us that call this place home are very fortunate to be able to share some time here with other good people.
With a good heart and kind words, he embodied the spirit of WoD. When he had to leave us last year to take care of his ailing wife, we all mourned his passing because we knew that our World was diminished.
Marnie, the beloved wife of Mike (Uthr's real name) and mother to their son Max, passed away from complications of MS last evening (Saturday, 9-27-03) at roughly 10pm EST. I spoke to Uthr today and asked him if I should let his WoD Family know, and he said that was fine.
Mike is doing as well as can be expected. He knows that Marnie is no longer in pain and is in a better place.
If you would like Mike's e-mail address, please private message me and I will pass it along.
For my friend, I ask that everyone keep him, his son Max, and both Marnie's and Mike's families in your hearts and in your prayers as they go through this extremely difficult time.
