Augur Wildwood dragged Sholeh Atei, who is sadly missed  , and myself from First Sundering back in 2001. Or whatever year that was.

Aaaah, the memories

Postby Caramon on Mon Feb 23, 2004 7:41 pm

I came here first because I was looking at switching a Sphere server I was running at the time from Sphere to Pol. I had tried Zulu, and ddin't like the player base on there. I think I heard about WoD from the Pol scriptforum or somewhere, so I joined up. This was probably in 2000-2001 or so. I played only a little, as I was in the middle of the scripting and converting First Sundering to Pol. I met a few people like Ciara, Blue Alkeline, and others who were VERY helpful, and really liked the atmosphere on the shard. But FS kept me pretty busy at the time. I let my account lapse here, and finally Real Life interfered with the UO, as well as losing the server host, so I took a couple of years off from playing UO. Then I re-applied for an account here a few months ago, and decided to log back on, and the bug has well and truly bit again, I am hooked on UO again :)

As to people I helped come here, or suggested they try it, I know of quite a few. Cloudchaser and I started about the same time I think, as we were part of a guild on FS. There were a few others that came about the same time. Dell-Leafsong is a friend in RL, I cannot remember if I suggested he try it here, but I DO know I was the one who got him addicted to UO in the first place, so I guess I am to blame for him in some sense :) My RL brother plays on here also now. So for all of their support and help in getting me re-established here, I thank them, and hope to be seeing more of everyone on the shard.

As Darkane already said, I came from First Sundering also. As Caramon said, they were in the process of switching from Sphere to POL. Interested in what the upcoming changes might be, I took a look around for a POL shard to try out and lucked on this one! Little did I know at the time that these were the scripts that the FS Admins were going to use. ;) I think that was late 2000, probably October.

I started playing here and gradually spent more and more of my time here instead of at FS. When the change to POL occurred on FS, I realized pretty quickly it was the same scripts, with a few minor changes (as far as I could tell). I decided to spend most of my time here and shortly thereafter brought a few other folks over too. :) In 2002, I spent about 6 months playing DAoC, but came back (inevitably) to WoD when that experience eventually got too frustrating.

I believe a bunch of people from FS have followed, especially once FS closed its doors some time ago. I was sorry to hear about that, but very happy to see lots of new/old friends here! I have met tons of very fine people and treasure many of my experiences here. I would also like to thank Drocket, the admins, GMs, and Seers for making this a great place to be and share with others! :D

It's a Ranar thang. I followed Keelarr and Gramps. They lives in Magencia on Chesapeak since they found the realms after leaving Menzo. They forged the world to their liking for many years, proving their worth and even overcoming the racial prejudices many had for our race. and when they were recruited by the gods to help keep the peace all was well for a short time. Then as time wore on life began to become increasingly annoying in that realm. People with little thought for their actions and even less acountability caused them to take revenge for the little people as best they could. When the gods decided to forsake the folk altogether and returned all the avatars to their normal status it was decided that the Ranar family no longer felt the bond to the land they once had and so it came to be that other worlds were sought. With the grace only the drow know we slithered out in search of a new land to call home. My second cousin Kayla returned with news of a new world where we would not be jundged on the merits of our race but on our own souls actions, yet it was also mentioned that though we are of drow herritage we would not be noted as such since the gods of this new land, though kindly, are a bit ignorant and blind to our existance. (they keep telling us we don't exist yet here we are) As the family prepared to leave for the new lands Kayla and her family began making a place for us in the new world. Gramps was the first to arrive, followed by Keelarr, and his son Krellen. Together they forged a friendship with several of the inhabitants of this new world and set to work building a new life. Keelarr met a wonderful woman named Kara and married her. I myself had been traveling to the various mage fairs on different worlds while prefecting my craft and making interesting alliances. Though none compare to what I have found here. This land, though at times strife ridden, is my home as well as a part of me. Of course the tree hugger followed me and Kenny came along shortly after that.

Where on earth is Metropolis, IL, anyway? I'm from (well my parents live in) Aurora and I don't think I've ever heard of that town. I will be moving to Dekalb this summer though (where Northern Illinois University is).

Well, I've told my story a few times before, but I never tire of talking about myself.
I played on OSI (Lake Superior) for a couple of years and really loved the basic OU "game". I got to do some cool things with some even cooler folks. Homer Newby (me) was good friends with a character named Ty (who was later known as SY on WOD). Ty invented this great game-within-a-game called "Clash", but the jerks on OSI destroyed it just because they could while the admins stood by and watched and shrugged their shoulders. That was the last straw for me, and I quit OSI. A short time later, I heard that Ty's brother, Dundee, was starting up a "no jerks" private shard with some other folks. I knew Dundee and Shade from a distance and knew Dundee as a "can do" type who not only knew how to have fun in online gaming, but also created fun for those around him.
I happened to have his e-mail address, so I wrote him and begged him and nagged him and hounded him until he let me join (although the shard was not really in operation yet).
Looking back, I can't believe I could have been so lucky. It just goes to show you that even an idjit can stumble into a smart move and end up in just the right place at the right time.

To this idjit's credit, if WoD had not been my first (player-run, no jerks) shard I probably would have gotten bored and quit pretty soon after I joined. I remember that when I joined half the things didn't work, and those that did work didn't do so properly. There were barely ANY players online during daytime (I often found myself the only person online for HOURS), and only during peak times would we have (at most) 5-8 players or so. By all accounts, WoD wasn't half the shard it is today.
But Dundee changed all of that AMAZINGLY quick. He worked on those scripts like a maniac (I seriously doubt he got enough sleep), and within a few months most of the major (technical) features that make up WoD today were in place. Our player based increased very fast too, and thanks to our strict rules and no-jerk policy every new player was a pleasure to have.
It was by sheer dumb luck that I stumbled upon this place, but my staying on WoD had very little to do with luck and much to do with the incredible amount of work and dedication that went into "building" the shard, and the quality of the player base.

My ultima online journey began on a small shard ran by a good friend. Because of R/L the shard closed. At that time The world of Dreams came highly recommended. I applied and nervously waited my acceptance. The day I got accepted started another fantastic journey with a lot of wonderful people. Around every corner I found a helping hand with a smiling face. I have made some really great friends and some terrific memories. Quiet frankly this place "Rocks" and I wouldn't trade one minute of it. Thanks gang for welcoming me into your community.

When I was in year 8, which was 3 years ago now, two of my schoolfriends kept talking about a game called Ultima Online whenever we had IT (Information Tech), and at the end of year holidays Plasia came over and brought his UO CD. He got me started, told me to sign up to WoD after installing the CD. A week later, I was playing. These two schoolfriends by the way are Plasia and Tel'Imoen

Ahh, I had to look it up in a map but I found it. Turns out I must've passed by or near your town a dozen times coming to drop off a friend who lives North of St. Louis. What's your I-24 exit?
I do remember Paducah, KY (might've even stopped there for gas). Apparently it's gotta be Kentucky's second largest "city" (hehe) after Louisville or something because you find signs about 70 miles away announcing Paducah is ahead. How many minutes from Paducah is Metropolis?

I started playing UO on OSI's Atlantic shard over 4 years ago, but after the first 2 years or so, I became very, very tired of pks, scammers and thieves - which seemed like most of the population. By my 3rd year there, I hardly ever logged in.

Someone on OSI mentioned that he used to play on a player run shard, and I was intrigued...I hadn't known they existed. He told me about the top 200 list so I checked it out. I soon came across WoD, and thought that it sounded like exactly the kind of place I was looking for.

I was amazed when I actually got here. People were so friendly and helpful...so many people helped me in the beginning...and when I died, they rescued me! For the first time, I actually had friends in UO! :) I've been here for over a year and a half now, and I'm pleased to call this shard home. :)
