Question regarding the poison spell..

My necro has 108 magery, 110 necro and 110 invoke. When he casts the poison spell (3rd circle) it seems as though even the smallest critter resists the spell. Is it supposed to be that way? Even ettins were resisting it.

What does the game look at when casting a spell? Is it based solely on my invoke vs. the creature's magic resist?

I tried to find an answer but after awhile I got lost in the code, still not that familiar with it. Your own magery level makes a difference though...ie: one formula has (castermagery/20)+1. That would be your 'p_level' for that spell. Then your int is taken into account, the opponents spell resistance and so on. Sorry I can't be more enlightening but I never had much luck casting poison myself so I gave it up. :)

The resistance check for the poison spell is equal to your invocation skill: If you have 100 invocation, the target has to pass a 100 skill skillcheck (the old '50% success at 100 skill, always succeed at 120 skill, always fail at 80 skill' thing) Its probably not going to be very effective against large monsters, but hey, its a third circle spell. What do you expect for 9 mana? :)
