I was going to say "Favorite Animated," but I figured I would let someone else do the whole "anime" category.

What is your favorite Disney animated movie? Mine is "Aladdin" followed closely by "The Lion King" and "Beauty and the Beast."

Oh by far Fantasia surpasses them all.

Beauty and the Beast.

But did anyone else like him better as the Beast than as the prince?

The Lion King ruled! No pun intended.

The "Night on Bald Mountain" section of Fantasia rocked also.

Beatuy and the Beast was good too

The Lion King was good, but is forever associated with screaming brats, dirty diapers, and sticky floors, as I worked in a movie theater that summer.

Come on, Orion. I know that secretly your favorite is Beauty and the Beast, too...

Um, no. But it was good.

Beauty and the Beast was my favorite, and I'm not ashamed to admit it :)

(That is, unless Pixar movies are included in the running. If so, I think Finding Nemo would be my favorite (though it's hard to say for certain without a few more years of viewing to see how well it stands up over time), with Beauty and the Beast running a close second.)

Beauty and the Beast.

I did like Finding Nemo, but my daughter cried when they jumped out of the fish tank. Even though we told her they were going to the ocean.

Well, I disagree with part 2, but part 1 I'm in agreement with. Its been a few years since Disney has put out anything truly good (excluding Pixar movies, which Disney really isn't involved in beyond marketting.) Lilo and Stitch had some funny parts, and the Emporer's New Groove was moderately amusing, but they were far from substantial movies. Probably the last 'real' movie that Disney put out was Lion King, and that was about 10 years ago. Since then they've mostly been coasting on regurgitated, unoriginal storylines.

What makes me angry is that that they refuse to admit the heart of the problem: that their animated movies over the past decade have been, at their best, mediocre, and often downright BAD. Instead, Disney is blaming the technology.

For those who haven't heard, Disney is dumping traditional animated movies. There's still one or two still in the queue that are going to be finished and released, but after that, Disney's animation department is being shut down (and has already mostly been disbanded.)

So essentially, instead of making bad animated movies, Disney is now going to be making bad rendered movies. And, I'm sure, then wondering why they continue to get stomped by Pixar and PDI (the Shrek people.) Fancy special effects don't disguise a bad story and poor writing.

One more thing regarding this: I know you're joking, but I actually think you're quite right.

Now, obviously, there's a big difference between explicit sex and violence and implicit, but sex and violence are 2 elements that are almost absolutely necessary for a good story (you can get by with one or another, usually, but usually you need both for a great story.) This is something that Disney once knew.

If you look at some of their 'better' animated movies, there's actually a surprising amount of violence in them:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves: The evil queen wants to kill Snow White, and eventually gets thrown off a cliff to her death.

Bambi: Probably the movie that's caused the most emotional anguish in children, ever.

101 Dalmations: Though no violence really happens, the threat of the puppies becoming a fur coat hangs over the entire movie

Beauty and the Beast: The beast is extremely violent, and so is Gaston. Gaston is eventually thrown off a roof to his death

Lion King: Simba's father is rather brutally murdered by his brother, and Simba eventually avenges that death by killing his uncle

There are a lot of other examples, but those are some of the bigger ones, just off the top of my head. Violence, or at least the threat of violence, are usually a key element in a good story. The same is often true of sexuality, or at least hints of sexuality. You can find a whole lot of examples of that in the above movies (Snow White, in particular, caused a small uproar way back when because the kisses in it were a tad deeper than were considered appropriate at the time. Then you have good old-fashioned beastiality in Beauty and the Beast, puppies (PUPPIES for God's sake) in 101 Dalmations and Lady and the Tramp, and so on.)

Disney has been playing is way too safe for quite a while now, and their movies have suffered for it.

the heart of any good story is conflict and resolution. without those there just isn't a story just pretty pictures.
i've mellowed quite a bit in my old age you know. now i can get along with either sex or violence in a movie

actually watched the monsters ball the other night and it was quite a nice movie then as a bonus halle berry popped right out of her clothes. sometimes virtue is rewarded after all.

Wasn't "Toy Story" a Disney movie? I can't believe no one else has said anything about that. :? I absolutely loved the Toy Story!! What about Monsters Inc? I must admit that my favourite would still be Dumbo though. I cry everytime that they take his mother away

Not really, no. Toy Story (and Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monster's Inc, and Finding Nemo) were made by Pixar. Disney just released the movie (which basically means they wrote up a few contracts to get it into theaters, then slapped their name all over it and took half the profits. Hollywood isn't a terribly fair place...)
