An idea: Clash II, The Battle for Heart Grove

Postby Atei on Mon Feb 09, 2004 9:57 pm

Some time ago, there was a PVP team game played in WoD called "Clash." Essentially, teams fought each other in The Pits for the right to have their names inscribed on a pillar that was prominently displayed in Brit Bank for quite a while, plus other prizes. I'm fairly certain that the team from Nujel'M won that contest.

I've been thinking for a long while that it would be fun to have another "Clash," but holding it in the Pits was VERY laggy. Instead, I thought an open air environment made sense, where lag wouldn't be as much of an issue. The downside of course is that when someone dies outside of the Pits, they almost always have death taxes to pay. I think I have a way to lessen that blow as well.

After careful consideration, this is what I've come up with: teams will battle each other in the clearing known as "Heart Grove." The team that has any member left living, wins.

Now, here are some details:

1.) Each Team will have no more than 5 members. The make-up of the Team is up to the Team members.

I was going to put in a limitation about the number of mages or archers, but that seems pointless. The more wide open this is, the better.

Henchies and tamed animals are fine, as well as summoned creatures. Also, each Team needs to designate a Captain and name their Teams.

2.) Each Team will have to submit an "entry fee" of $50,000 gold coins. Half of these funds will be split among the losing teams to help cover death taxes. The other half will be prize money for the winning team.

3.) The Teams will assemble near the Heart Grove and through random drawing, Team 1 will fight Team 2, Team 3 will fight Team 4 etc etc. As Teams win, they continue. As they lose, they don't.

4.) If any member of a Team survives, that Team wins. You cannot resurrect fallen comrades in battle. There will be plenty of time to do that. Also, no looting will be permitted.

5.) If any member of The Team leaves the Heart Grove, that team is disqualified. Obviously exceptions will be made for henchies, tamed animals and summoned creatures. The area around the Heart Grove will be cleared beforehand.

6.) Prizes: the only team that wins gold is the final standing team. The amount of that winning pot will depend on the total number of teams entered. I am also soliciting prize donations for the remaining teams. If you want to donate an object or deco item, please message me here on the boards or in game.

7.) Finally, to set the date: Leap Day, Sunday February 29th at 3pm EST.

Now, that's my idea SO FAR. I am asking for everyone's input for variations and other ideas. Also, please post any questions. I try to be thorough, but things get missed.

If you're ready to sign up your team, please do so below. Please tell me your Team Name, the members and who the designated Captain is.

I'd love to do this, however I'll be at work. If all goes well I'd like to take part in other events like this.

don't clear the area around the grove first. livens things up for both teams and the spectators that way.

It sounds like tons of fun! I'd participate if I'm free that day.

Is there going to be a limit on the items we can use? Are all buffs allowed? This could lead to some problems as I'd imagine people not thinking of it as a fair competition against someone skilled, and with very nice equipment.

Also, is poisoning alright?

We live in Australia... Can't wag either, we have to be at 95% of our classes or we fail.

And no, we don't go to school on Sunday here, we have a large time difference

I may have to re-think this outdoors event. For the last several months I have had Covenant on for the purpose of getting him to Illustrious. Now, Pau is on the path.

Last evening, it struck me that Pau wouldn't be able to participate (not that I was planning on it) because of LOST VIRTUE. I have no control over lost virtue outside of the Pits, and if we kill each other, we will definitely lose virtue. Yes, I can compensate for deaths with gold to pay skills back up, but I can't give virtue back to people.

Here's an alternative idea: we hold this event at the Pits, we limit the teams to 3 members each, no pets, no summoneds, no henchies, no area effect spells. And yes, poisoning is fine.

What does everyone think?

I intentionally didn't put in limitations, but if the event is being moved indoors to the Pits, there will be some. We could make it a "Naked" event--only player-made armor and weaponry, no skill buffs etc. I need input to see if there is interest in doing this, however.

While I appreciate the effort that goes in to these kinds of events, I'm just not a fan of PVP. Maybe we could have timed team battles instead. Get your teams together, spawn some a titan or something (same bad guy for each team) and the best time from clicking on the stone to titan's deathcry wins. It's a little like a rodeo that way rather than gladatorial combat. There's still time to set things up however we all decide to play it.

I appreciate your viewpoint, Dell, but there's something else to consider: the hardest critter to fight in the Pits is probably a Titan, and selecting multiple bad guys isn't an option. Solo combat vs. a Titan is an option, but when you're talking teams, it won't take them long to kill the beast.

Sounds like a minor script change might be in order so that we can pick a royal dragon or something equally evil. I know you were hoping to avoid asking for any script changes. I think that's the part I appreciated most--the fact that you were trying to come up with a fun event beyond asking for new spawns, scripts, etc. How about Titan Pro-AM? Teams of 2 one master and one neophyte vs that same one Titan. Best time wins, but if the neophyte dies, you have to start over. This way, we practice hard core teamwork, and hopefully have a little fun too.

Whatever we decide to play, I'm going to try very hard to come. It'll be my first real WOD event. For as much blather as I'm always spouting on the boards, you might think I'm on all the time, but, in fact, I'm just a well-intentioned blowhard with a little time on his hands.

It would be their monday :( 95% attendance? Wow, mines only 7 unexcused absences from each class, yours is rougher.
*needs to find other people for a team I guess*
