I'm glad to hear that you've found a place to house the Library, Marius. Where will it be?

M, what would you want it to do besides sit there? get up and do the twist?
I don't understand your view point here, and i looked over the entire post.
Not everyone here RPs and as such not everyone would use such a thing, but i am sure that it would get used but a good number of people who do RP, and among those i'm sure you'll be remembered.
On a side note, everyone seems to be upset to the point of leaving, something should be done to appease them and stop the flow of long term players fleeing the shard in abomination.

A player who does not think he or she has anything to contribute to the shard is as good as the admin who thinks he or she should just sit down and watch players from afar.

To be honest, I don't really understand how this arrangement is different from what you were trying for, a library is after all just a building with books.
In any case, congrats on getting this project done, I know you've been working on it for a long time.

simon, people leave all the time for various reasons. Ultimately, when someone gets to that point there isn't much you can do, or should do, since you can't "please all the people all of the time." Heck, I don't even pretend to try to please everyone. I can only speak for myself, but I'm here to do the right thing as best I can. When I'm long gone, I hope people will say, "Welp, at least he wasn't spineless."

This is a great post, Joram. We are all on the same team, the goal being to make WoD as good as it can be. If everyone did their part, however small that may be, WoD would amazing. Is it an unrealistic expecation? Will it fall short of utopia? Probably, but I'm prepared to keep trying. The question really becomes, "How do we get better at working together?"

For christs sake people, make the damn library, quite pissing and moanin about it damnit! I can't even put into words the disgust I am filled with over this post, and for almost 60% of the posts in the last year. The players here will or won't visit your library, hell I might if I get bored. You may find it interests a few if you are lucky, hell it may even get a visit from a LOT of people. Hey here's an idea, PRIVATELY MESSAGE A GM, and ask if it is possible to have a telepad dedicated to it. And if you are not aware of this, the WoD scripts are available to any and all who wish to implement them. If you are so frustrated with the lack of admin help, for gods sake get the hell out and be all the admin you think ours aren't. But I for one am damn sick and tired of a bunch of whiny jack asses who keep knocking the admins for their own lack of character or interest in your own private interests. I will even offer my castle as a spot for the library, I am not dogging any of you in particular, just the general attitude that is shown. I will allow you to do what you want with the castle if it will help, and I am almost certain if you asked in a manner that didn't point a finger and say "see they never help us" that the admin would be a tad bit more supportive. Even though they didn't give me a trashcan for my lich staffs lol. Heck I don't doubt that if you asked formaly to have a teleporter placed once the library was finished and furnished, you would have a better chance of them taking notice and helping out. But for asny of you to point a finger at the admin and accuse them of not giving a sh!t is just plain a$$-holish!!!
FYI, I was there when the very first player town came into existance on OSI, and guess what, they didn't get any assistance from any admin until it was well formed, and they proved it wasn't some fly by night thing. Having only been here on WoD for a few weeks I have learned that our "lazy, worthless, good for nothing" admin are some of the best I have ever seen, and I knew many first hand on OSI and other shards and they couldn't come close to ours, again I will say If you don't like it get the hell out, and do it quick.

Its been a long time since the Fellowship Hall was created, but I do believe that I have at least some recollection of it. The first and most important thing is that it was not originally created with the assistance of GMs. Its was Homer's work that created FH, and it was Homer's work that made it into a valuable resource that players liked and used. After it became something valuable and useful, then the GMs did some things to help it out. And not every anything major, either - they built a teleporter - big whoop-dee-do.
What I'm saying here is that, if the library idea has any inherent value, its going to have that inherent value whether WoD admin gets involved or not. If its not a useful and worthwhile project that players are interested in, its not suddenly going to become one simply because we locked down some books for you.
The work of making the library useful and successful is up to YOU (Marius and any other players who might be interested in helping.) IF it proves successful and to have some long-term viability, THEN we'll talk about maybe helping it out (and by that, I mean something like locking down extra bookshelves, not giving you a historically-important building in the center of downtown Britain.)

Roleplayer or not, I don't see that makes any real difference in wanting things in this shard to be unique, and to have things that other shards don't have.. But then, maybe some people don't care, are here because it's free, or only want gold, gold, gold.
However, just like the Fellowship Hall (A thing which I visited within mere days of first coming onboard here because it was unique, because it was symbolic, and because it was a thing that was important to the older players of the shard.) the library can be more than just a place roleplayers go to roleplay reading books. .. (seems a bit wierd to me, that logic.. )
Marius, I once donated a tower to your library..
Now I donate the only quest note I've ever gotten. One from Gruedon, during the Shabooli quest.
Perhaps others will do similar, and the library can be filled with not just books, but things from quests past.

I need to look but I may have a "Sash of Rebellion" that I could donate if the library also becomes a museum.
Misconceptions, misconceptions, misconceptions.

The library is going to be some static or deed full of books. That is, apparently, what I worked very hard for. It's not a monument to RP (unless only role-players have the ability to read), it's a testament to what WoD is. Or was, at least.
When you build something, when you really take the time and effort to construct something and put your heart into it, it becomes very difficult to recognise that not everyone shares that opinion. But this, this little virtual library in a tiny virtual *program* .. it was more to me than that, even if it is not now.
I don't care anymore, and nor should anyone else. This project is over and done. Whatever happens to it is up to fate and the future. The library is relegated to every other player project in history, that of novelty and then obscurity. I'm not really inspired, after reading Azzo's post, after everything, to work on any other big projects, though I'm sure that'll please him and the rest who share his point of view.
For the moment, I'm done with WoD - though I'm not saying I'm quitting or anything silly like that. I've just decided to not plan any more big projects. I'll put the library up, quietly open my store and then, well, I don't know what then. Maybe I'll take Azzo's advice after all, despite how hurtful it was.
The message was made abundantly clear.

Marius, don't let them get to you. Make WoD what YOU want it to be. NOT what some people decide what you should do.
If I spent more time Online I'd be right there with you building the library. That's the whole reason I've never spoke up. I wouldn't have enough time to devote to be fair. Hell, I've even considered writing a short story to add, just so years down the road there would be something that people could look at and it said, "Orion was here."
Don't let people that have an obvious problem with you or what you are doing ruin your dreams, experiences or leaving your mark on WoD. I'm not. Especially don't leave just because they think you should.
