A good general guideline written by a very experienced player and compiled from a vast number of quests and discussions with fellow WoDians can be found in the Manual by clicking the

Quest Guide links.
While this is a general guide and not meant to cover every exigency of every situation, it contains common sense considerations and time proven strategies.
In my own experience, pets wreak havoc on quests. They create lag, obscure the opponents, distract other players and potentially can turn a good quest into either a nightmare or a fluff.
On the other hand, they can be valuable, front rank, discardable tanks as well. They can soak up a lot of punishment and deal out a considerable amount as well. As long as their masters regard them as disposable tools that can be ressed afterwards, they can be useful in specific situations.
As a general rule, don't bring your pet to quests! However, if a specific group, or clique as they are sometimes called, decides pets are ok then go for it!
