Another thought, how about making the oil available for adventurer's guild tokens. Maybe 200 per?

Zed wrote:So, Atei, you cashed in about 20 items to get a bottle of oil. Used it on gloves to get gloves of prot, then gave it to Benson to get another few points? Um sounds really worthwhile to me :)

Unless there turns out to be a way to control what happens when you use the potion, it doesn`t really sound worthwhile. 20ish items for one bottle which could end up making you a single weapon of quality doesn't really sound like it is worth the effort.

If you get on average 5 points per magic item then it will take you about 20 magics (and 10k) to get the oil. (Actually, the first bottle of oil was given to me at the end of the quest, so it didn't cost me any magics.)

Was it worth it? Well, the gloves weren't, but that's the chance I took. Now, turning a plain lich staff into one of power AND silver was DEFINITELY worth the minor magical items I traded in, in my opinion. In fact, I am saving my points up for another oil to try and upgrade Aellius' druid staff.

The way I look at it: if you're not going to use that leather tunic of guarding AND no one else can benefit from it, why not drop it on Benson and take the chance you will get a nice item?

We all take the chance we'll get "phat lewt" every time we hunt. This gets rid of clutter (reducing item count) AND gives you an opportunity to get a nice item. Personally I think it's a great idea.

Its like a lottery I guess, but I think maybe the items in random could be a higher or above crappy.

Fine Maul of Quality

And it would be nice to do Clothing items, Ive wanted a magic half Apron for ever.
If I found a 'Freaking Club of Macefighting' I think I would keep it, especially if it was silver :P

Might I suggest that possibly it may help reduce the item count for those older magics if maybe we could talk Benson into taking them at a reduced rate say 1/5 or even 1/10 of what the new ones are worth, for at least a period of time (after all the magic properties in them are not as fresh as the newer magics ).

I see this as a way of encouraging those "hoarders" to part with those useless items either directly or by encouraging their trade to some of the players that know the items would be worth at least something from Benson.

Aardwolf
I agree with Aardwolf that Benson should take the old items too, perhaps for 1 each, it would decrease the item count dramatically (not that I would have any items in my bank box that are too old for Benson) but Drocket is our God and has the final word so I settle for whatever he decides to do

Trashing junk makes me very happy. :)

If the trashing of unused items is the case here, then wouldnt it be better to offer the people that do this a better selection?

Another thing,if they allow older items to be dumped you know the newbie box would be cleaned out, so maybe its best to leave all the newbies something to start off with.

Besides Ateies Silver of Power, anyone get anything goood?

I think trashing junk is it's own reward, it makes the admin-types happy and makes the world saves and restarts noticebly shorter. This is enough incentive for me to trash junk.

I dont think anyone hoards junk Tel'Imoen. I cant imagine anyone keeping a fine club of maceing. I think what people hoard are things that could hypothetically be useful. Buffs that maybe could be used at a later date, weapons that someone might want to buy, wands to replace the ones being carried. Unfortunatly these items can build up over time into hoards. I know I have alot of maiming weapons I still somehow think could be useful, but I'd just as soon give them to Benson given the opportunity.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, something that is even remotely useful, or something that has some sort of value even if only minimal. I'm sure many of these items won't be used in the near future.

Its my suspicsion that the points for an item are loosely based of the source monsters magicquality rating. In other words a wand from an ancient dragon would be about 6-10 points and one from a mongbat would be 1-4 points. Anyone seen otherwise?

uh, Lyl, thats not how you spell suspicion.

Lyl wrote:This is what I can tell so far. You need 100 units of magic to get an oil. The units you get from any junk magic you give Benson is random, but about 5. The magics resulting from oil are random in their properties. Also you need gold apparantly, Benson said 10k per oil. I could be wrong on any of these points.

ok, what am i doing wrong? i have 104 pts. i have offered benson as much as 50k gld. yet i have no potion. any hints would be appreciated.
