As Algodon and I went through the Ice Dungeon, we encountered tons of monsters (moslty snow orcs and ice skeletons). We found an ice fiend surrounded by multiple monsters, and cleared the area in a hurry. Looting the corpses, I found a note on the ice fiend which reads:

Attention Snow Minions
The following 48 hours are essential to gaining our goal. The snowcrystal must be in my possesion in one piece and undamaged for it to be effective.
