Greywolfe,

Have no doubt that I took notice of your library. And as I said, I think this idea is great - between you and Laephis I have been convinced (argument-wise) that having a new landmass would be a positive thing. Also as I said, I wasn't out to bash you, or your idea: I think it's a great idea that certainly could be an exciting addition to the shard. These kinds of labours of love: from the Fellowship Hall, to custom scrips to even new landmasses, are the contributions that let players impact the world and shape it for the better. What Laephis mentioned in his post reinforces this.

One question I must ask though: When you say that it is "part" of the Britannian world, can that be taken literally as part of the Britannia of Ultima fame, or do you just mean developmentally (map-wise)? As I understand it, WoD isn't 'really' part of the Ultima/OSI experience, and is sort of a generic fantasy world in it's own right. Would your addition be part of this generic fantasy world and in preserving that, have a story that goes with it?

I know I've asked you before if you had a way to introduce the part of the world you're designing, but what I'm asking now is if it will be introduced in a way that fits in with the WoD world. Logic would decry that it would be though, but if it's another "kill X monster to get to Y landmass" I'm going to scream. :)

If you need any help, Greywolfe with anything, drop me a message here or via PM. Most people will certainly tell you that I'm full of .... ideas. ;)

Thanks for the discussion. I appreciate you hearing me out, and handling it well.

Well when I said "part" of Britannia I meant it more in a technical way. In other words both Britannia and T2A share the Map0.mul file.

As far as the story goes, I spent my time (on my previous shard) as a seer. So the story telling part was really my first love. I have been mulling over a couple different ideas of how to incorporate the new lands with the existing WOD lore. However, being just a player I would assume that if the landmass was added, WOD's current seers would determine the best course of action for introducing the new lands. I would still try and add my 2 cents though hehe.

I am just always trying to find new outlets for my creative energy; the key is to make sure you don't spread yourself too thin. So for now I am focusing on building, and when this project is complete I will look to see what else I can do to help

In addition I have focused a fair bit of attention on incorporating various landmarks and features that will allow for new and interesting challenges. I don’t want to give away any of the secrets but lets just say that I have strived to incorporate some unique ideas to spice things up.

Finally, I never thought you were bashing me or my project, and I always have welcomed open discussion. So don't worry about holding anything back on my account.

not to subject anything from you guys, but wouldn't it be wise to just wait for POL .96 and then switch to AOS. I heard the number 20M tossed around, that is alot for our friends on dial up.

I can understand your concern Simon, but really a 20mb file can be downloaded in about 45 minutes on 56k. Sure that is a good bit of time but it would only need downloaded once. Any additional changes would be made through patch files (like OSI does)which are less than 1mb combined.

However, we are still getting a little ahead of ourselves. Staff has not even seen the project, let alone commit to it for the shard.

There is a lot of undeveloped space now, but much of it is not usable. Just try finding a site to place a Keep, a Castle, or even a Tower, and you'll see what I mean. These new lands would give us areas to place a Keep that are free of both ice, and the stench of trolls.

indeed it would my freind, but as would waiting to be fully Aos with it's 4 maps, though i am not sure how much work it would take D-man to WoD to play nice with the newer stuff, seeing as we have a ton of custom stuff. really nice work by D and those before him over the years.

I use 56k dialup, and would not mind the 20 mg download. That really isn't so bad - it's about the same as 5 or 6 mp3s.

Even on weak dial-up, 20MB isn't all that terrible.

I remember taking hours upon hours to download 50 Meg episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion. And there were 26 of them total. It took a very long time to get the whole series, but wasn't too bad for each 50 meg episode.

I've also downloaded stuff over 150 Meg on dial-up. Again, it takes time, but it was well worth it.

Anymore, because of pause and resume features offered by most if not all download sites, downloading this size of file on a slower connection is not a problem.
