Jeez, that would make the oil Way too powerful.

Of course its not very fair that oldbies with hoarded exceptional clothes get all the fun.

I think that the ability to make exceptional clothing will probably make a comeback sooner or later (probably later :) ), but that it'll probably require a bit more than making snip noises until you get lucky. What exactly, I'm not sure yet, though...

Or Tel'Imoens...

What about adding a special potion to the mix? You know, you have your cloth and the special potion in your main pack, something like that?

Nah. We've been sacrificed enough and nothing good has come of it.

Its time, I suppse, to reveal some more information about Benson. First, though, some general information about the magic spawning system:
Each type of NPC has 2 main attributes when it comes to dropping magic items: chance to drop a magic item (obvious) and quality rating of the magic item dropped (which is what I'm going to talk about.) Quality is rated on a scale of 1 to 10 and influences (but doesn't dictate) the actual quality of them item that is created. An item with a low quality rating will probably be bad, but there's a small chance that you'll get a good item. An item dropped from a monster with a higher quality rating will, on average, be better, but still may wind up being a bad item
When you give Benson a magic item, he'll give you some points depending on the previously mentioned quality. A really good magic item may not be worth that many points, while a poor magic item may be worth more
Once you get 100 points, you can buy a magic potion from Benson (say 'buy' to him - he'll charge you 10k gold for the potion, also.) You can use the potion on exceptional player-made armor (and a few other items that don't need to be exceptional - druid and necro staves, for example) and it will make it into a magic item. The magic quality of this item will be a 10 - the highest possible quality (though again, you may still wind up with a bad item - bring your lucky rabbits foot with you when you use the potion :) )

did I call it or what

Does this mean that the magic that you make from the oil will most likely be good? Thats why everyone is getting such good stuff from him :)

Crappy magic items

Postby Harley on Tue Dec 31, 2002 10:24 pm

Ok I admit I have way too many items in bank. I am a packrat by nature plus when I started on this shard I didnt know what was a good item so i kept everything. Its not really hoarding in my case. I fairly often give young players a set of armor plus weapon and shield for free. I understand not allowing old items to trade in at full value but trading them in for even 1 point would give packrats like me a reason to get busy and trade a lot of old stuff in and reduce item count. I have run up like 72 points in 1 afternoon. Of course I kept that bone helm of fortification and that +10 doublet of swordfighting I took from Titans/OL's not that far from Bensond place.....I actually got my best pts from magic wands believe it or not.
