Gray's Tale, Part 1 (Just in time for Halloween!) (long)

*Covenant Atei*

In order for you, my fellow Britannians, to fully understand all that transpired that Halloween night so many years ago, I feel that I must give you a bit of a background concerning Gray and myself. I do not offer this as an excuse or an explanation of events–it is entirely up to you to decide if you want to accept my version of the events or not. I will simply tell you this: this is what I remember.

I was sent to meet the old man at the Skara Brae Bank on that fateful day, 13 years ago. Samhain, or Halloween as it has become known now, was still a few weeks away. As I gated in, an ancient man approached me from the woods behind the bank. He walked with a pronounced limp, his hair was wispy, white and nearly gone, and he used a gnarled staff, intricately carved, as a walking stick. His equally white beard whipped in the strong wind that had kicked up, and I thought to myself that this old man could easily be whisked away like so many leaves. There was no way I could know, at that time, how mistaken I was.

He was wearing nothing more than a raggy old brown robe and sandals, and I thought how odd that was. The weather had been getting colder lately, especially in the late afternoon and evenings. I also distinctly remember pulling my dark blue cloak closer as he approached. That shiver was from the wind, right? To this day, I am not sure.

His voice was like the whisper of a breeze through the late fall corn stalks as he asked me, “Are you Covenant Atei, the man Connor has sent?â€

wow, you look so enchanting, just sitting there, your eyes glowing with anticipation, your lips slightly parted with wonder, head slightly cocked to the side, an errant lock of hair curling unnoticed over your collar.

I think I'll just sit here right next to you and await the continuation. Want some popcorn?

Hey Atei, did this story die or are you still working on it? I was really looking forward to the next part. *Hopes Macitor just missed it completely or it wasn't posted*

There are lots! Marius has been doing some very nice stuff lately. His stuff scares my cats so I have forbidden them to read over my shoulder now.

This story kind of died on the vine, but it may be resurrected. We'll see.
