Controlled invasion in Britain

Postby Henna on Wed May 05, 2004 4:10 pm

This is my first attempted quest write up, so please bear with me...

Last night, a small number of players were gathered at the bank, chatting, blissfully unaware of the invasion that was sneaking up on us. (I believe we were discussing Scott's merits as a toad at the time. ) At the bank, Zalon said good night to us all, walked out of the bank, gated to his house in east Brit, and promptly died. This was our first hint that anything was wrong.

A few controlled mobs spilled from Zalon's gate in front of the bank, and all the players left inside immediately sprang to action. The few controlleds were quickly put down, but Zalon's cry for help informed us that east Brit was positively overrun, and we set off to help.

Among the group I remember at the time were myself, Scott, Septienna, Aislin, and Romina. We barely made it to the bridge near the mage shop when we happened upon the first wave of controlleds. They consisted of severely strong townspeople, undead, and orcs. It took perhaps a minute for Scott, me, Aislin and Romina to die. Clearly, this invasion was going to be tough.

For a little while, we ghosts sat and had a nice tea party until someone was able to res us, after which, we spent long moments sorting everyone's things out. It was quickly discovered that the controlleds had spawned inside of Britain Proper as well as accross the bridges, taking over shops and buildings. We quickly set about dispatching the (relatively) few in west Brit, then, gathered together to prepare to cross the bridges.

Our little group at that time consisted of myself, Scott, Belle, Celeste, Aislin, Cindy, and Azalin (sorry if I'm forgetting anyone). We moved slow, picking off a few mobs at a time. Most of us had died twice by that time, so we were properly cautious. Though the quick-healing townsfolk, and the undead skeletons and dragons were bad, the orcs were by far the worst. (One took me down with two swift blows.) But, we pushed on, working together as a group; the fighters wreaking havoc with their weapons, the mages casting and healing, and Celeste, being particularly effective with her bow.

We fought late into the night, with no end in sight. The masses kept coming at us, and everwhere we turned (no matter which way we turned), a new group of controlled waited for us. At long last, we reached the edge of brit, and, weary from the long fight, we stopped for a rest. The message then flashed accross the screen that the server would be restarting. Initial protests were sounded, and then, my beloved dragon spoke to us, explaining that Drocket had things to do before he went to bed. How she knew that, I'll never know... dragons are wise that way, I suppose.

Our part in the quest seemed to be over, though we were sure we still had not reached and destroyed all the controlled in Brit. We quickly recalled to the bank to begin the splitting proccess, but were interrupted by the server restart. At that point, I went to bed, so someone else will have to finish this story... as far as I know, no special quest items/notes were found... though, I missed the split, so I could be wrong. One thing I do know, though, is that we have to find this Xandebaric, and finish him once and for all, before he takes over our World of Dreams completely!

Lastly, let me just say that this invasion was a GREAT adventure, and we all had a lot of fun. :) The quests lately have been awesome, and I want to thank the seers for all their hard work. :D *hugs to the seers and GM's*

Nicely done, Henna. As a veteran of quest write-ups, I think yours was one of the clearest and well-written I've seen. Please share more of your prose with us! :D

I agree with Atei, Henna. Good write-up.
I only wish I was there to help. With rl stuff(12 hours a day at the job and sleeping), dont have much time for WoD until the weekends.

Have a good day!!!

Good job, Henna!

i didnt make it back for the split either...i didnt collect any quest items or even any magics. But i will be happy to split what loot i found if can get together for it.

The orcs were tough....one took me down in 2 swings. It was quite an adventure...but at 230am with no ending in sight i wasnt that heartbroken we were interrupted by the restart :)

Thank you Atei, Herakles, Aislin, and Bayn for such kind comments. I am quite honored to have received such recognition. :)

Aislin, you must live in my time zone. :) I would have been willing to go on sans the restart, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been much longer before I fell asleep at my keyboard. hehe.

About this same time Michael went to his vendor, Storm, in East Brit. After checking his vendor he noticed a controlled spectre and a controled orc just behind the house. He quickly dispatched the two mobs. Off on the horizon were more orcs, a warrior and an Orc Destroyer. The Orc Destroyer got the best of Michael. Celeste and Bromix quickly came to his rescue. Bromix found a note. I'm not sure exactly what it said but I'll paraphrase it. It said something to the effect that no town was safe.

After Michael was resurrected he went out to Trinsic and Skara Brae. He didn't face any controlled mobs.
