Just met a few of these guys at the small beach just east of Britain. We had a minor disagreement on wether or not I could mine for sand there. After we had discussed the issue and reached an agreement (none of them objected at that point. In fact they didn't speak or move at all) I found a note on a Defender, saying:

Maybe they are creating an army of obsidian golems?

They are creating Obsidion Supersoldiers. Be warned, these creatures hit as hard (possibly harder) than Ancient Dragons. In a quest to rid sand dwellers that I was at on Friday, we encountered one of these Supersoldiers and two of us died in less than 1 minute. They are as fast as we are on horses and stronger than any elemental.
