What Orion said: the advancement skill is on top of whatever your normal skill level is. I probably didn't phrase that as well as I should have :) In time, I'm going to increase the limit to +10 for primary skills, +8 for secondary skill and +6 for everything else. I just limited it to +5 for the time being to get a good idea of if the advancement rate is good or not, and I think its about right (side note: currently, the highest advancement level is one person with +4.4.)

Also, as I previously mentioned, magery skills (magery, invocation, necromancy and animal lore) will be getting advancement also, but before that, I'm afraid I'm going to have to announce an upcoming change that I'm sure will be unpopular: From now on, casting 7th and 8th circle spells will require magery as a primary, and 5th and 6th circle spells will require it as a secondary.

Finally, addressing tradeskills, although I'd like to put in this sort of thing for them, I'm really not sure if it would be possible to balance them with an additional +10 skill. +10 skill in a crafting skill is a HUGE deal that makes a major difference in your success rate, far more so that +10 skill does in combat skills (this is actually the reason with the above magery thing too. Giving everyone even +6 magery, in addition to the +10 from items, makes everyone a mage, more-or-less.) So, I don't know yet...

Gate travel is a 7th level spell, so will those who use scrolls and have mage as a sec. still be able to gate or are they SOL? I ask because i sell gate scrolls to such people.

On the trade skills. Couldn't you make it so that you craft faster with adv. skill gain?

So basically, the only way to gate anymore is to have magery as a primary?

If that is the case is there any way to lower the Gate Spell to 6th circle or a way that it doesn't get affected by the needing magery as a Prime?

That's kinda funny, us posting the same feelings at the same time.

Hmm the gate thing, if its true wont bother me, I dont gate around, I can travel just fine. But if its true its gonna hurt me anyways because I dont have magery as a secondary and I use Magic Reflect scrolls constantly, ouch that will really bite!

I got 4/5 chars with primed magery and i've been playing lately with the one char...60 magery :)
Kinda bites too, i use alot of MR scrolls, but it ain't too bad: you can always use MR charged items(i got a highcount gorget, it's easy to swap when i'm shooting mages with a bow :) ), Then there's the MR wands...could anyone make me some alchemy symbols+charge em? :)

Thanks D-man. Another very good change. It is good to make primes really important and force us to make decisions when creating characters.

This surely will hurt a bit for now but will make our shard even more interesting in a longer run.

Very unpopular indeed. I guess it's time to restructure my characters... Ah well.

So the new magery restrictions are based on your skillset rather than your skill level? Unless I'm mistaken someone who has magery spec'ed at 80 could easily go above 90 skill and yet be restricted from casting 7th and 8th circle spells. I supposed they'd still be pretty good at casting 6th circle and below though :)
Also, am I correct to assume magic reflect is not an option for no spec'ed spellcasters anymore (even with scrolls)? I guess it's time to mass manufacture magic wands again :)
