Through the forest and the fields
Patiently he sought his foe
Ettins, ogres, headless ones
One by one he conquered so.
None could match his peerless skill
All felt his lethal sting
Even ogre lords were humbled
By his sharp and pointy thing.
O'er the vale and through the wood
Didst he march and slay his foe
Chanced upon a woodland clearing
The sight nigh brought him low.
There stood a maiden all besought
By monsters grim and fell
His heart did leap within his breast
He would save this lissome belle.
He bellowed his troth to yon maid
She should put her trust in him
Poor, frail lady back away
He'll shred those monsters limb from limb.
She laughed with crystalline appeal
As a corpser tripped his noble steed
A clamorous clang announced his fall
A disaster in an hour of need.
He yelled at her to flee away
His life was forfeit, o' the bane
She swung her hips and laughed again
Then spoke potent words most arcane.
The titan fell with a resounding thud
The corpser sizzled in a rage
The ogres shrieked their last woe
By gosh, the lady was a mage.
She helped the knight to his feet
Brushed his armor, kissed his cheek
Winking at his befuddled face
She vanished before he could speak.
Through the forest and the fields
Patiently he sought the mage
But ne'er did he find a trace
Though he searched for an age.
