Dell's Story (The Short Version)

Postby Dell-Leafsong on Wed May 14, 2003 3:01 pm

This (probably too long) story tells a little bit of Dell's story and tries to explain the character deletion for which I am probably now famous  I hope it'll go up on the web site somewhere close to the tale of Xander and family. Thanks for reading :D

It had been weeks since he had seen his older brother, Xander or the bane of his soul Ygal (Xander’s wife). Dell wandered as usual from town to town looking for friendly faces and wondering about Felicity.

She was a beautiful girl, as one might expect. An ugly one would hardly have captured the heart of a handsome rascal like young Dell Leafsong. The farms of Skara Brae were warm and sunny that summer, and more than one afternoon they spent watching the clouds or playing the games that 16-year-olds play when they’re alone in the hayloft. Felicity was the daughter of Crenshaw the Farmer. Dell’s uncle Steel was Crenshaw’s friend from ages ago when they used to fight off mongbats together. Steel sent Dell over in the summers to help out on the Crenshaw farm catching rats in the barn and other odd jobs, but Dell wasn’t well suited to farm work. He spent most of his days playing the lute for Felicity and falling deeply in love.

When the autumn came, Dell returned to Moonglow to stay with his brother and new sister-in-law. Xander and Ygal had just bought a house on Moonglow, and Dell was excited to have the chance to help the brother to whom he owed so much. Felicity had taken a commission to train with the Trinsic town guard, and they both knew that when they said good-bye it might be forever. Dell wrote a song for his beloved, and he titled it…First Love

*Lute plays sweetly to a tune not unlike Greensleeves*

She is the light that comforts me
And the night where I can lay my head
In the shade of an Ohii tree
Shall we make her maiden bed

This, This is my First Love
Who takes my heart so gleefully
This, This is my First Love
Whose heart I take as well

She goes away in 2 days time,
And knows that my soul goes there with her
In the nights I spend while we’re apart
I’ll sing this song forever

This, This is my First Love
Who takes my heart so gleefully
This, This is my First Love
Whose heart I take as well

*Lute plays the refrain a few more times*

They were married in their hearts on the day Dell left for Moonglow, though none of the Leafsong clan would know it. It was his most joyful and sorrowful hour. That is until he knew the sorrow of dire regret. Any who have read the story of Dell, Xander, and Ygal know that Fate had in store something horrible for Dell on Moonglow. But what of his beloved Felicity?

Drowning in sorrow for what he thought of as his evil deed, Dell wandered for years from town to town learning a few useful skills and contacting his family only on Velya’s birthday. When Velya came of age, he tried his best to help her on her way. His sorrow seemed a little lessened when he helped others.

On occasion, his mind would travel back to Felicity, and often to the woman in town who reminded him so much of her. There was a lady named Byrch, Skeeter Byrch. She looked a little like Felicity, but more than that. Chatting with her at the bank and at her home reminded him of happy times. A longing crept back into his heart, and a spark soon was fanned into flame.

He heard news from his grandfather, an ancient druid named Gray Leafsong. Felicity had resigned life as a town guard and joined his Circle. When Dell found her, his First Love had changed. She was a woman now and a woman with a calling. She listened with a kind heart to Dell’s tales of loss and suffering, and she offered advice—not a lover’s advice, a druid’s advice. “Meditate at the Shrines,â€
