Lich

Postby Wood on Sun Mar 21, 2004 4:02 am

Today I was in Shame, and died when I hit a respawn. I had cast the spell Lich on myself a few hours beforehand, and it hadn't worn off yet, but when I died I suffered death taxes. Is Lich supposed to prevent death taxes from happening? The Lich buff wore off 9 mins after my death, but I still received taxes

There is a 50% chance of 1% loss per skill. This means that if you had Tactics, Swordsmanship and Parry as your primary skills, there is a 50% chance that each skill could drop from 100 to 99. This will happen only once per hour, so multiple deaths in the same situation will not take away more than 1%.

So basically, I don't think the death tax occurs upon every death. Unless, of course, the manual is outdated on this particular topic.

I think it only pauses the death tax, after you cast lich it turns it back on, Drocket can speak to this better then I.

I have been told many times that when Lich'ed, the caster will not suffer taxes. This has been the case for me every other time i have used it, but this one time I suffered taxes

Brother Leir is right. There's a line of code in the spell program for Liche that seems to be reseting the timer that POL uses to determine whether or not you've died recently. It adds 3600 seconds to the current time basically giving you one full hour (and only one hour) of tax free death. The spell's duration is always way more than that. At least, that's what I think I'm seeing...please forgive me if I'm wrong. It is 2am after all :D

Yes, when I had a necromancer, I thought I was totally protected as long as the lich spell was still operating. That isn't the case, it is only for one hour. However, just recast it once every 50 minutes and you are well protected!

Aye the buffs of the spell last the full length of the time, the "death-taxcut" only lasts the first hour of the spell. Mind you should you die recasting the spell, the dungeon is not the best place to be when doing so. Gate to town near a healer, you will need a rune for this, and cast lich. There will be plenty of time, and you can step back through if still alive. If you die however you are in town and near help rathr than being looted and in need of a rez. On a side note, you can check to see if the spell went off by checking the status page and looking at the durration of the lich spell.
