Greywolfe's Project

Well after reading Atei's thread about major changes it inspired me to post some info on a project I have been working on for the last few months.

I like many others have always loved the land of Britania. However, I always felt that T2A was wasted land, and on WOD it is not used at all. So that was part of the inspiration for my project. I have been building an entirely new T2A landmass complete with 3 new dungeons, 3 cities, 10 massive overland caves, several unique locations, and approx 30 new structures. Now this project is far from complete but it is progressing very well.

Ideally I would love to see the new lands used by a shard like WOD. I have made certain to only effect the T2A landmass and a small section of green acres, so that if it became a viable expansion for a shard, it would not change anything that currently exists in Britannia or current dungeons.

The new update would require a 20mb download for those interested in venturing to the new lands. But it would work in such a way that it would not be a required download to play on the shard (if you were only interested in staying in Britania that is).

Now I can certainly understand if the staff would not want to use these lands I have made. It is basically just a project that I wanted to do for it's own enjoyment level regardless of whether it is used or not. I only decided to post info about it because new lands could potentially spark some additional interest.

Keep in mind there are still a few months of work that I need to do so the shots are a little rough but it gives you a general ideal of where it's at now. I am going to be posting shots from two of the cities and some of the other structures I built very soon but I just threw up some basics for now.

Nice work, but I'm not sure I like the idea of even larger downloads myself.

Those are very nice looking buildings. I'm curious, though, how you have the file be only 20M - zipped, I thought they were about 100M. I'm guessing that you mean that as a dif/patch file? If so, I'm not really sure how well that would work. We have enough people who have trouble with zip files :P

Generally it'll be 25 MB or so, zipped. The .mul files compress real well, especially the map and static files.

Tel'Imoen, I can understand your trepidation about another large download, but the nice thing about it is that if you decide to download it, you would only have to do it once, and if you didn't want to bother with the 20mb download you could still play on the Britannia land without any trouble.

Drocket,

the three files I zipped was the map0.mul, statics0.mul and stadix0.mul. I was actually somewhat surprised to see over 100mb of files compress that far but it definitely worked. I had Xelio Kendamose try the zip and it worked fine.

Now keep in mind that the file size may increase slightly as I add content to the statics files but fortunately the map0 file never gets any bigger (which is the large one to begin with) I have made sure not to do any work on the dif files I figured it would be better to start with clean difs.

Currently the map itself is about 99% complete. I just need to clean up the occasional bad tile that appears here and there. I have fixed the majority of the bad tiles. However, even a map as small as T2A takes a surprisingly long time to walk around.

I am about 75% done with the structure designs for the land. I have a few key areas that need some work but that is all moving about as I expected.

The next phase will be to decorate. I have decorated a few of the buildings but the majority of them are still empty. Once everything is decorated it is just about going through doing a little clean up and it would be done
