Why is it so quiet? Where is everyone and what are you doing? Why is no one posting anything?

I can't work when its this quiet. It feels like no one cares about what happens on the shard, and that depresses me. There's barely any posting even in the general forums. Come on, start an argument about something. Then I at least know that other people care about the shard...

Sorry buddy, done that before and no one had fun. There are a number of us who care about this place still.

But perhaps to boost ratings we should vote someone off the isle.

i have a good excuse. my 9800 pro vid card melted again or more properly the replacement one melted. in finest ati fashion they giggled when pointing out the card was over a year old. my reply that the original card was over a year old was true, that card lasted less than 6 months which made the card that melted this time barely 10 months old. the only good bit of news was that a replacement 9800 was 249 cdn. new fans and card in place i am now back.

*wonders why he should speak up but does so anyway* Sometimes some things will get so insane that it is not worth goign through the agony of arguing because some people just don't look eye to eye.....

Edit: And sometimes they just don't want to look eye to eye.......

The Marius Report

Drocket,

Everyone that felt powerfully about WoD and had a presence on the Forums has been driven away, whether temporarily or permanently.

Joram, Atei, Chelsea, Shadowstone, and Kasia were some of the biggest names on and off the forums (remembering that some are absent only temporarily, as I have pointed out) and while a lot of people still post - 'big names' being Simon, Azzo, Ehran and Wolfie - the absense of the former is a significant blow to the culture of the game world.

WoD has made it five years, but it's become apparent to anyone who's remained here for any length of time that the world refuses to change. Every strong-willed player who had a presence on the forums has desired change that they believed would benefit the world, but found themselves ostracised for speaking out loud.

Whether you want to deny it, or not, the fact is that WoD discourages people who speak their mind.

As to the recent state of affairs; it is exactly what WoD desires - a complacent player base who offers no criticisms, reports on events as they happen and ask questions of the game world as they arise. After five years, it is very clear as to what is permissable in the game world and what is not - there are very few grey areas to discuss with any interest. Coupled with the fact that there are very few people who can argue intelligently (Marius Guide to Forum Posting, q.v), leaves those issues sterile.

To use an analogy, it is an unwise King who presses for conflict during times of peace. That WoD does not have any conflicts that need resolution is not the fault of the people, but rather the fault of the leader looking for purpose.

If there is no desire for you, Drocket, to take to the problems of WoD without a sense of satisfaction and a very clear indicative of reward, it is not your place to ask the people to provide this. The argument being that all players of WoD are 'asked' to contribute to the world without any sort of reward, without recompense or even for any other reason than sheer charity and the fact that they are almost 'indebted' to do so. That you cannot do the same is only the height of irony. Why should people do what the admin can not?

Perhaps it is time to review the way things are done. If you want contribution to the game world, offer rewards, in any form. Have players who contribute plots or events work with Seers to develop them. Have people who want to host events have special consideration to see that done. For too long there has been a rift that the admin have made, distancing themselves from players. If you want to breach that void and create a better WoD, then remove that rift.

In conclusion, there is no reason to contribute in-game, and anyone who speaks out loud on the Forums is put down. It is also unwise to push for controversy in a Forum that cannot handle it in a dignified way. Sensitive issues held poorly only push more people away from the forums, rather than instil a desire to care for it. Beyond any love for WoD, people first have a desire to prove themselves, and that will never change.

Drocket, if you want people to care for WoD, give them a reason to.

Woah, what Marius just wrote is surely going to pull up discussion. I can't say that i disagree too much with him on those things, maybe i'm just weakminded and stick on something cause i don't have anything own to say. :)

Just because there isn't an argument going on at the present time doesn't mean people don't care about the shard. Take a look at how many people showed up for the 5th anniversary party. Note how many people log in each day. We don't have to argue to love this place.
Alot of people care about Wod.
Thanks

Ok I usally don't reply to these things but,I care about WOD so here is what I think..... One thing is not long ago we upgraded to LBR<now I know there are some new monsters out there to use,so why not use some areas to put some new spawns out,say like T2A,make nasty little places where you can't just leave your comp. go get a drink come back and your still smashing away.I know the are caves not in use put some things in there, maybe find new items and decros, that can be found,or giving away in quest.Anyways that would be a nice start, also if anything, have a vote say over three months on a shard wipe( ahh yes the old shard wipe) if 60% or more say yeah then go for it. Only thing is I hope there is a way to keep some of the old things Woders have found over the years can be save like Maruis did.Don't want to lose the history of WOD. Ok am done I guess, people care some just want some changes, why not just a huge one that everybody has to come and see.

In my case, most of my gaming time is being spent on shard hopping, looking for someplace that offers some sort of challenge, I havn't gone quite so far as to try a PK shard but it's getting close. It seems most people everywhere are looking for easy *sigh*.

More a matter of what I'm looking for in a shard having changed over time than anything else. For a long time I wanted easy riskfree hunting as well, and I enjoyed spending time ingame, then I moved to spending ingame mostly as a social activity. Now it's time to look for some non coma inducing hunting so the shard hunt has resumed.

I'm back now and am going to start playing more. I was always very outspoken when I played here and seem to rember that when I posted about a new idea, it always got shot down. For example, the quests for evil players. It was shot down within hours of posting, people saying that that is not what the shard is about. I dont know for everyone but I know for many of the people that I hang around with, the idea is change is good. People like new ideas.
